Following the breakup of The Beatles, Capitol Records put out a series of thoughtful compilations of the group's music, starting with 1962-1966 [The Red Album] and 1967-1970 [The Blue Album] in 1973. These were followed by Rock 'N' Roll Music (1976) and Love Songs (1977). By keeping the focus on chronology and theme, Capitol did a great job of re-introducing The Beatles' music to a new generation of listeners. However, by 1980, they lost the plot with Rarities, a collection of variant mixes and harder to find B-sides that really seemed ill-advised. Reel Music displays a similarly slippery rationale for existing. How many Beatles fans in 1982 thought to themselves, "What I really want is a new Beatles compilation that features songs from their movies, the hit songs that were already on the Red and Blue albums"? That's what we get on Reel Music. As with Rarities, you can't argue with the quality of the songs. However, it plays like a greatest hits album that is missing key songs and key eras. As a result, this is the kind of compilation that only the most devoted Beatlemaniac should try to track.

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(c)             The record is  apparently  pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            The record is guaranteed to come in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album.

(e)             PROMO-ONLY LIMITED EDITION, NUMBERED COPIES ON YELLOW WAX are much rarer that a regular, commercially released,  black vinyl version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo-only yellow vinyl copies by a ratio of at least 100:1.

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
