Revolver 2/2

The second mono pressing has only a couple of light clicks only and generally plays very clearly but with some background static here and there.  It is a relatively low second pressing as there are only two stampers on each side.

Mono 2/2 second mono pressing on Yellow/Black label.  'The Gramophone Co. Ltd' etc printed around the perimeter edge and 'Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions' also on labels.

Small 'Mono' on front of E.J. Day cover with Dr. Robert credit on both cover and label, the earliest variation.  KT tax code stamp on S1 label.

 Visual grading

There are a number of faint hairlines on this vinyl and a couple of slightly more obvious ones but there are no deep scratches affecting the sound quality.  I'd go so far as to say it is very clean for its age and is definitely not marked heavily like so many from this era.

Play grading

S1 has a little lead in static and 'Taxman' then plays very clearly with only a little static in the background here and there but there is certainly no loud crackle, clicks or pops.  'Eleanor Rigby' has a couple of dull clicks near the start and whilst there is some light intermittent crackle throughout it is for the most part in the background, non-intrusive and decreases as the track progresses.  'I'm Only Sleeping' has very clear audio with only light static here and there.  The quiet intro on 'Love You To' has excellent clarity, just very light static and the remainder plays exceptionally well with barely any interference.  'Here, There And Everywhere' again has some 'soft' static in the background but still plays very clearly for a 50 year old vinyl.  No loud clicks or pops again.  The iconic 'Yellow Submarine' has excellent audio with very little 'background' and is a wonderful listen.  'She Said She Said' has a little static again but generally plays with excellent audio and not very much distortion which you often hear on this final track.  This side for the large majority plays with excellent clarity and whilst there is some 'background' here and there it does not interfere with the listen and there are certainly hardly any clicks.

'Good Day Sunshine' on S2 has no clicks or pops but again there is some static in the background.  This is vinyl after and it's not surprising there is some 'background', that's part of the charm of this medium and hey it is rather aged!  The music is still very clear and the vocal remains strong.  The remainder of the side plays in a similar fashion and there is no need to describe every track.  There are no clicks or pops and the background static is largely non-intrusive in my opinion, it is certainly not loud.  I will grade this side as VG+ but there are definitely sections that play as Ex.  'For No One' is a good example of this.  Some background static but the music still displays excellent clarity and depth.  'Tomorrow Never Knows' actually ends the album with excellent sound quality and with very little of the distortion that is so often prevalent on this track.  It is worth reiterating that there are no clicks, pops or jumps on this side.

Cover

The G & L laminated cover has some shelf wear although nothing major.  The edges and thin pinched spine have very little rubbing although there is a very very fine split on the bottom edge.  There is some minor corner wear and a few small creases near the spine area.  The opening edge has a little handling wear and two small tears near the bottom but these are 'behind' George's hair and not that easy to spot!  The back cover is very clean indeed with no writing (that is rare!) and the flipbacks have hardly any of the staining that you so often see.

Inner sleeve

The die-cut plain white inner (Patents Applied For - Made in Great Britain) has no splits, only some light creasing and faint age related marking here and there.

The labels

The yellow/black Parlophone labels have no marking or writing and remain in great shape with not a great deal of spindle wear.  The KT tax code is on the S2 label.
