Description

Rubber Soul is possibly my third favorite Beatles album, only tailing Let It Be and The White Album. I believe "Help!" preceded Rubber Soul... A stark removal musically from a group that could reasonably be called the first "boy band" to a group of geniuses that can write a masterpiece like this. While the vinyl is much better, that's a given with most albums, especially that were recorded for vinyl (contemporary-wise, few albums made now with the exception of some punk rock albums/post-hardcore albums are actually recorded with the actual INTENTION to be pressed and listened to on vinyl, but since at the time vinyl was the mainstream medium, all albums were of course meant to be heard on vinyl but only the incredible ones like this does it make an important difference in the CD/MP3 era). However, despite my large vinyl collection, including an early US press of Rubber Soul (first press I believe), I'm not a vinyl snob because its not worth it to be, because I'd be broke if I didn't accept CDs and MP3s as an acceptable way to listen to music prior to them.
Anyway, that said, I don't know much about the history of the bands exploits, for instance when it was when they went to study under the Dalai Lama and such, I just know the music, and I know Rubber Soul is a different band than all the releases prior to it. It has depth and soul, not the depth they reached by Let it Be but again, a monumental difference from Help and all the pop nonsense they wrote before it. They not only transcended pop, they turned into a band that wrote masterpiece albums for a living.
