THE BEATLES
RUBBER SOUL
1965 1ST MONO
CAT. NO. PMC 1267
-1/ -1 MATRICES
An incredibly rare original copy being pressed in December 1965 and quickly withdrawn due to the imbalance in the Bass.
Sleeve: Fair condition. Has retained its original glossy finish, bright coloration and contrast... Corners and edges have shelf-wear but spine is structurally sound. Tears and repairs to front panel, discolouration and part of bottom fold-over missing. There is a rippling effect to the opening side extreme edges laminate and creases. Lies flat and still does its job being structurally sound overall. This is a first issue with the tear on John Lennon’s shoulder visible.
The Vinyl: In a Good Plus condition ... Has retained a jet-black glossy pressing sheen all over both surfaces and looks to have been played frequently but not handled badly. There are no warps, no scuffs, no needle drops, no groove wear, no scratches. The surfaces are clean and have retained their original lustre and project a strong mirror-like shine. There are lots of feint hairlines. The condition clearly shows the potential for a decent audio rendition.
Mothers & Stampers: 1 HA/ C36 GGD
This doesn’t conform to an EMI pressing and could be a contract pressing.
Inner Sleeve: Original tracing-paper lined EMI advertising inner sleeve in Good Plus Condition with no splits, and fairly neat opening seam. Has a few handling creases and discolouration. Unusually too, the outer paper is heavy duty - at least twice as dense as all others I’ve handled.
The Labels: Very Good condition. Very minor play-wear to the spindle perimeter, ad quite a lot of spindle line traces to the spindle point. KT tax code present and still bold.
The Audio: There is a little deviation from the original audio quality but nothing major. It plays well, very clear and lucid with only feint background noise only audible in the linking grooves between tracks and some of the fade-in’s and fade-out’s. Lucid instrumental detail and raw original deep imbalanced mono bass channelling, and loud and punchy vocals. No jumps, no pops, no clicks, no skips, no sticks etc. a decent listen overall just not perfect but OK.
