Description
This auction offers one of the scarcest UK Beatles sleeves ever produced - Rubber Soul with silver 'STEREO' text in the top-right corner of the front of the sleeve.
Printed in extremely-limited numbers, these sleeves may have been produced for export to the United States of America (an as-yet unproved theory).
Two types of these 'front-stereo text' sleeves were issued, black 'STEREO' text and silver 'STEREO' text. The existence of two versions effectively renders each type doubly scarce on account of the ratio of total number of 'front STEREO' sleeves to each colour.
The facts of the limited distribution, and therefore the relative uncommonness, of this sleeve requires no bluff and bluster of the, "just try and find another one, especially in this condition" flavour. This sleeve is one of only a handful of genuine sought-after UK Beatles sleeves.
SLEEVE CONDITION
Because gradings of a record sleeve can be subjective, I have provided large and detailed images of the various important aspects of the sleeve to facilitate an objective appreciation of its qualities. The integrity of spine and seam has not been compromised in any way whatsoever. The front of the sleeve is glossy (and may improve with appropriate cleaning) and is without rips, tears, sticker shading or glue residue; there are a few creases (see pictures). The back of the sleeve lets the side down a bit due to a couple of dirty streaks and general low-level grime, which might be removed with cleaning.
THE VINYL LP
The vinyl record which comes with the sleeve is, overall, in good condition with regard to quality of playback. This is well-played LP but it is not 'thrashed'.
Side 1 plays without jumps or sticks. Low-level pop and crackle, while in evidence throughout Side 1, are generally only audible in the silence between tracks, crackle is most evident in Track 7, "Michelle".
Side 2 plays without jumps or sticks. Low-level pop and crackle are in evidence throughout the side.
The pictures of each side of the LP, scanned via my A3 flatbed scanner, have had their 'exposure' levels increased so that surface blemishes can be more readily seen. Dust and other superficial detritus, which can be remedied by a good clean, is in abundance on each side. However, the presence of scratches on each side is minimal, with Side 2 faring a little worse for wear than Side 1.
NOTE : the vertical 'lines' or 'streaking' which can be seen on each scan of the LP is the result of the characteristics of my flatbed scanner (a cheap Mustek A3 scanner).
MATRICES
Side 1 - YEX 178-3 2GH
Side 2 - YEX 179-3 2GM
LABELS
Please see the picture of the labels which perfectly illustrate the state of the labels. Numerous spindle trails are in evidence on both labels. There is a 'KT' tax stamp on the Side 1 label.
In reference to Beatles For Sale On Parlophone Records (Spizer and Daniels), the labels look to be PAR 3075.SR1Aiii (Side 1), and PAR 3075.SR1Ai (Side 2)
