REVIEW OF THIS 'LOUDCUT' VERSION::. First “Loud Cut” pressing. December 3, 1965. “Loud Cut” matrix: XEX 579-1. When “Rubber Soul” was initially mixed it was slightly different to how we hear it today. These early mixes only ever appeared in mono and are distinguished by the matrix numbers XEX 579-1 / XEX 580-1 in the deadwax. It’s argued that these early presses were unbalanced with a muddy bass and with an edgy, aggressive vocal sound. Since these copies seemed to lack body the decision was made to halt production whilst the mother platess were re-cut. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Sold in U.K. subject…” text. Tracing-paper-lined “Use Emitex” die-cut inner sleeve. With or without KT tax code on the label. “Loud Cut” copies can be found with both Times New Roman and Sans-serif label types, although Sans-serif is the more common and is likely to have continued production along with the Times New Roman issues.

Variation A. These are the early Sans-serif labels that tended to adorn the earlier “Loud Cut” copies of the album. Their distinguishing feature is that the * credit indicator on these labels are spaced away from the song title.

 

Grading & Condition of Vinyl & Sleeve

 
Disc(s) Condition = VG- (Many light surface marks either side,nothing deep that causes skipping or jumping plays through fine,with backround noise in most parts,and occasional clicks....)

Labels Condition = EX+ (Owners name inscribed side 2 biro over the yellow pound logo))

Sleeve Condition =  EX-(laminate front cover,with flipback rear,the  front and back gatefold is very clean and bright,entrance shows only light removal wear,spine straight and readable,owners name in pan across top rear of cover,this is a 1965 sleeve so do not expect mint minus!! )

Inner Sleeve = Original 'emitex' inner

Inserts or Extras Condition = NA

Record Collector grading system used

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

As well as the above grades, Near Mint is often used as well; this is really for a record that appears new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them. For records which appear to fall between the accepted grades, + and - are also often added to the grading.
