Description
Thank you for viewing my auction. If you have comments, concerns, questions, etc. please ask and I will respond within one day.
Please Note: My 3-megapixal digital camera is many years old. It has done the job capturing details in each photo. However, in some photos there is a parabolic effect that results in the appearance of curved sides and edges. That is an illusion. The album and transcript sides and edges are straight.
THE BACKSTORY
The Beatles Story aired on (British Broadcasting Company) BBC Radio One, May through August 1972. It was a 13-part, 55 minutes each, radio documentary of authentic music and first-hand interviews covering the entire history of The Beatles from their individual beginnings to the breakup of the band. The BBC made complete use of their own archive of audio interviews and music.
Later that same year, the series also aired in 13 weekly segments to subscribing radio stations throughout the United States. The U.S. version was 46 minutes each, pared down for the necessary commercials. It was syndicated more widely beginning July 4th, 1973; and again, with an additional hour of new material, in December 1973.
The Beatles Story was the pioneer and originator of the radio programming segment format in America known as the Music Documentary. From the 1980s onward, you probably have listened (and still do) to the best known nationally-aired Beatles-themed radio shows of their day: Breakfast with the Beatles (1976-current), The Lost Lennon Tapes (1988-1992), Joe Johnson’s Beatle Brunch (1992 – current) and The Beatle Years with Bob Malik (1992-current). [The longest-running Beatles-themed radio programme in Europe is BeatlesandBeyond presented by Pete Dicks of England (2000?-current)].
THE AUCTION
You are bidding on The Beatles Story / The Authentic B.B.C. Production from London Wavelength (1980) : ONLY 150 WERE PRODUCED – this is #7/150 – in a 13 vinyl LP set of 12" picture discs in a brown faux-leather bound album with a 26 (double-sided page) (8 ½"x 11") booklet of disc jockey cue sheets and music copyright pages (not originals from any radio station) that accompanied the radio station broadcast.
Each LP has a photo on one side that is unique to that disc; the other side lists the title of the chapter contained on the disc – with the common Wavelength logo, each disc in different colors. The album set contains thirteen pockets: one for each LP; and each LP is in a paper sleeve inside the pocket (that depicts the same likeness as the picture disc LP.)
The album set comes from a non-smoker home and has been kept away from heat, humidity and sunshine for many, many years. With that in mind:
The album shows no wear – Pristine; each LP is clean and glossy with no chips, no cracks, no scratches, etc. – Mint-; the paper sleeves do not look like rice paper, but a good quality white paper / no seam splits, dirt, etc., but each with sporadic minor ring wear that should be expected for the LP protection; for each LP, the pockets have no bent tips / no bent corners / no ring wear / no seam splits – Mint-. [When you read the list of LP titles below, I have noted, four of the pockets have minor, unglued gaps that are hardly noticable. None of the unglued areas compromise the integrity of the pockets] ; the cue-sheet booklet has some sporadic, minor wear at the edges, otherwise the front and back cover and inside pages are Mint-.
The chronological titles of the LPs:
“The Birth of the Liverpool Sound”
“Getting it on Wax” – unglued 1.5" length at 2 o'clock position.
“Chart Success and the Package Tours Begin”
“The Start of Beatlemania”
“The World Surrenders”
“The Life and Rewards of Success”
“When the Touring had to Stop” – unglued 1" length at 4 o'clock position.
“The Psychedelic Chapter”
“Meditation and Corporation”
“Hello Goodbye or Come Together”
“The End of The Beatles” – unglued 1/2" at 2 o'clock position and unglued 2" at 5 o'clock position.
“The John Paul George and Ringo Show” – two or three very minor and short unglued areas.
“John Paul George and Ringo Today”
