Label from Taiwan of doubtful legality. The label catered to US soldiers stationed in Taiwan in the 60's and 70s. Covers were often photocopied from Japanese or US issues with altered colors. Many releases are on colored vinyl. 1968 - CHUNG SHENG RECORDS - VIETNAM - 1960's ISSUE
Taiwan-based Chung Seng record label is best known for cheap pressings of the day's popular music to be sold to mainly US soldiers during the Viet Nam War. These records came in lightweight card sleeves covered, inside and out, in loose fitting plastic with poorly printed artwork and and lyrics printed on the back cover, usually with many spelling errors and poor translations. Most were pressed on colored vinyl though some of the later issues were on black vinyl. They all feature the Chung Sheng logo prominently on the front cover and have the CSJ-XXX catalog numbering system. At the bottom portion of the record label there are two numbers mixed in with some Chinese characters that give the release date for the record. Add "(19)11" to the first two digit number for the year with the second number signifying the month (ex.: 59[Chinese character] 3 would be (19)70 / March).
