VERY RARE 1963 U.S. COMMERCIAL ISSUE 45 FOR "PLEASE PLEASE ME / ASK ME WHY" ON VEE JAY RECORDS 498 NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE FAR MORE COMMON ISSUE FROM 1964. SO THE RESULT IS ONE OF THE RAREST, MOST HISTORIC BEATLES RECORDS THERE IS. THE  FIRST RECORD RELEASED IN THE USA TO BEAR THE BEATLES NAME WAS "VJ 498". THE SINGLE CONTAINED THE GROUP'S SECOND BRITISH 45RPM SINGLE, "PLEASE PLEASE ME" BACKED WITH "ASK ME WHY". VERY RARE AND VERY HISTORIC ORIGINAL FROM 1963!! INDEED AMERICA WASN'T QUITE READY FOR THE BEATLES WHEN THIS RECORD WAS RELEASED IN EARLY 1963. SO THE RESULT IS ONE OF THE RAREST, MOST HISTORIC BEATLES RECORDS THERE AND IS CONSIDERED ONE OF A FEW "A HOLY GRAIL" ITEMS FOR BEATLES COLLECTORS. THIS IS THE BLACK LABEL / COLORBAND & OVAL LOGO WITH THE BEATLES MIS- SPELT WITH DOUBLE "TT" ON BOTH LABELS. CONDITION IS VERY GOOD & HAS CLEAN LABELS. THIS 45 IS THE REAL FIRST TRUE AMERICAN 'ALL BEATLES' RECORD HAVING ALL ORIGINAL BEATLES COMPOSITIONS / PERFORMANCES.

NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE LATER TWO PRESSINGS (Vg 498, Spelt Correctly as The Beatles, which is also Much Rarer than the "PLEASE PLEASE ME / FROM ME TO YOU" 45 ISSUED MUCH LATER IN 1964 (VJ 581). The Beatles recorded 'Love Me Do' in September 1962, a few weeks after the deal that contracted the group to Vee-Jay, and the single hovered in the twenties of the English charts from November to January. The Beatles' next single, 'Please Please Me' / 'Ask Me Why', hit #1 in March 1963. When it hit #2 in early February, Vee-Jay decided to release the single in the US, which they did on 25 February 1963 (VJ 498). The song did get some airplay from Chicago top 40 giant WLS, and was placed on their top 40 charts for two weeks, making it the first local top 40 appearance for the group in the US. The group was such an unknown that their name was misspelled "Beattles" on the record label and the top 40 charts.

The single slipped into obscurity soon after its release. This 45 however, was the first true Beatles single to be released in the U.S. The Decca single, 'My Bonnie' / 'The Saints' (Decca 31382) released in early 1962 merely features the Beatles as a backup group to Tony Sheridan. The Record Condition is VG to VG+,  the Labels are Clean, without much Wear, (See Scans). The Records Plays fine without no Jumps & Sounds Fine. Overall, this is the Best Condition I have Seen On this Rarity, (Having only Seen three Copies in over 30 Years of Collecting Records). Plus, this is a Stock Copy & was Valued in Record Collector" in1994 at £800. So in today's Money, this would be around £1,400. So Good luck in your Bidding, because the next copy might not be up for another 15 years on eBay, and by that time, You would need a Small Morgage to afford a Copy like this!!!! Mark.
