Description
THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM, ORIGINAL MONO.
1968 PMC 7067/7068 - APPLE RECORD LABEL.
A UK FIRST EDITION 9mm WIDE SPINE TOP LOADING MONO PRESSING IN ORIGINAL CONDITION, FEATURING A LOW NUMBER OF ‘0058510’. THE TEXT ‘AN EMI RECORDING’ IS NOT ON ANY OF THE LABELS.
CONDITION:
MAIN SLEEVE: the double album gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition. The sleeve has little in the way of the usual discolouration and is very white and very clean. The top opening edges are all excellent, the sleeve shows virtually no signs of any handling wear, its the best sleeve I have seen in a long time. On the front it has a raised Beatles logo and the unique individual LOW number of 0058510. The records are accessed from the top. The spine is in very good condition and is the more unusual WIDE spine, measuring 9mm. The spine has a little flaky laminate but all the text is readable. The sleeve features the visible flipbacks when the sleeve is opened.
INNER SLEEVES: both are in very good++ condition and feature the two original BLACK inners, they have not been replaced, both the sleeves have a little edge wear to one of the sides and some very small tears to the top of the sleeves. There is very little creasing.
POSTER: is in near excellent condition, it is complete with no rips, tears or writing (Biro) on, in fact very little wear at all, there is no cellotape or blue tack residue, no pin holes or other damage.
PHOTOS: are in near excellent condition and are made of the original thick card. They are clean and white on the reverse. There is no writing (Biro) and no cellotape or blue tack residue and no pin holes.
VINYL: are in very good+ condition, the two records are of the original ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl, and are dark and shiny. I have just played this album all the way through on my ‘Dual’ turntable and it sounded amazing, a really strong powerful Mono sound. The matrix nos. are XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1, XEX 711-1 and XEX 712-1. and the Mother/Stampers are: ‘1 - HP’, ‘7 - 0A’, ‘3 - LA’ and ‘7 - LT’. There are a few light marks to the playing surfaces.
THE LABELS: are in very good condition, featuring the original DARK green Apple colours. ‘An EMI recording’ is NOT on any of the labels, the labels show ‘Sold in the UK’ text etc. The George and Ringo songs are listed as ‘Apple Publishing’. Each of the labels show a few light age marks.
I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.
Grading System
The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
+ or – : indicates a grading in between categories.
