Goldmine MagazineRecord Grading Standard
Mint: Perfect, flawless.Legitimate sellers seldom use this grade. When a record is truly Mint, unplayed, itdeserves (and receives) a large premium over other grades.
M- or NRMT (Mint Minus or Near Mint): Usually thehighest grade. Records from the 1950's& 60's in this condition are truly rare. The record should show no obvioussigns of wear.
VG+ (Very Good Plus): Starting to show signs ofwear. May have minor surface marks/scratches. Cover may have slightly wornCorners/edges or have a slight seam split.
VG (Very Good): Still OK condition, butmore wear than VG+. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will notoverpower the music. Groove wear willstart to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with afingernail) that will affect the sound, Slight warps that do not affect thesound are "OK".
VG- (Very Good Minus): Generally not collectiblecondition, unless it’s a super rare record. Most dealers avoid records in thisshape or below. A cover or sleeve willhave seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ringwear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object. Therecord will have significant surface noise and scratches and visiblegroove wear.
G (Good): Lots of wear, but still playable. The most confusing grade! Good really does not mean good. It is actuallyquite poor condition. The LP coverbarely keeps the LP inside it. Innersleeves are fully seam split, crinkle and written upon.
