Description
THE BEATLES 'WITH THE BEATLES' VINYL STEREO 1ST PRESSING NR MINT JOBETE/GOTTA 'PARLOPHONE Co. LTD'
This immaculate first stereo pressing dates from November 1963, and the vinyl is in virtually mint condition (see description below).
PCS 3045
Matrices:
Side 1 - YEX 110-2
Side 2 - YEX 111-2
Labels: Side 1 EX/Side 2 NM
The black and yellow Parlophone labels are still vibrant and clean and in excellent condition, and include 'The Parlophone Co.Ltd' printed at the start of the perimeter and 'Recording First Published 1963' at the 3 o'clock position. Side 2 also includes the 'Jobete Mus. NCB' publishing credit for 'Money', indicating a first press. It also has the mis-spelled Gotta on both label and rear cover for 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' which was corrected on later pressings. KT tax code on side 2.
There is a little spindle wear on side 1, but other than this the labels are virtually mint.
Vinyl: NM/NM
Both sides were played from start to finsh on 03/04/2022 and I am grading them as Near Mint. I am very careful when grading my vinyl (I use the Record Collector grading system), and would never grade any item as mint unless factory sealed. There is barely a pop or crackle on this record, which is fantastic bearing in mind it's nearly 60 years old. Apart from one slight tick on Please Mr Postman, and another on Not A Second Time, it plays flawlessly, even inbetween tracks.
As you can see from the pics, the vinyl is still in sparkling condition and still retains a wonderful sheen.
Both sonically and visually, I would estimate this album has probably only been played a handful of times since new.
Cover: EX
The Garrod & Lofthouse laminated flipback cover is in fantastic condition, particularly the front, where there is just a little ringwear where the top of the vinyl would sit between the title and the Stereo indicator. The cover also displays the Patents Pending wording. Three of the four corners are pretty much perfect, with the bottom right corner showing a little shelf-wear. There is also slight foxing to the top of the rear laminate, but all flipbacks are still sealed and in place.
There is very little yellowing of the white areas on this cover, with no writing on it, which is so common on albums of the 60s and 70s. It is in excellent overall condition.
Inner sleeve: EX
The original Emitex tracing-paper lined, die-cut inner is still in very clean, excellent condition. There are no tears or rips, and virtually no marks. There is slight creasing in each corner where the vinyl would sit. The vinyl is now kept in a new inner to protect the original. Neither the vinyl or the inner are housed in the sleeve.
So overall this is an almost archive-quality copy of an early Beatles classic, in it's original analogue Stereo format.
All of my vinyl is sent in robust cardboard double-album mailers, with extra cardboard stiffners for protection. I will also send this item as free delivery, recorded and signed for through Royal Mail.
I will auction this with no reserve, but will start the bidding at £125.00.
