MY GRADING SCALE
Here’s how I grade my records:
SS - Still Sealed - The record is assumed to be in Mint condition, as it is has not been opened. I will explain any cut-outs, hole punches, notches, shrink wrap tearing or any type of damage (such as creasing, bent corners, etc.).
NM - Near Mint - Cover/Sleeve is beautiful. If the LP cover does not have shrink wrap, it has high gloss and little or no bumping of the corners; only the slightest signs of wear/handling. The record shows very little signs of play/wear, if any at all; as close as it gets to just being opened. Only a few LPs/Covers will receive this grade, as it should rightfully be rarely used!
EX - Excellent - LP covers may contain some noticeable corner bumps and possible scuffing, and 45 sleeves may contain some light bends/creases. The LP covers may contain hairline creases. Slight ringwear may be evident for the LP covers. The record shows light signs of play and/or wear. May have light scuffs and/or very minimal, light surface scratches/marks. It is a very nice record for listening and/or collecting.
VG+ - Very Good Plus – This is the most common grading for records that have been handled with care but listened to and enjoyed. LP covers may have some creasing and/or more corner bumps/rubs/bends. The cover’s spine may show some flaking and some noticeable ringwear could be present. The 45 sleeve may have slight tears and/or creases in it and possibly some slight splits. This is a nice record that has been carefully handled and kept. There will be signs of wear on the record, and it will likely have scuffs and/or surface scratches/marks. It should give a nice listening experience.
