Description
A great opportunity to buy a copy of a DOUBLE VINYL LP from the 1960’s by The Beatles called "The Beatles", more commonly known as the "White Album".
This is an ORIGINAL issue with the TOP-OPENING Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold sleeve, black inner sleeves, poster and 4 colour prints, dark green labels WITHOUT the reference to "An EMI Recording" and most importantly, a (relatively) LOW NUMBER, 0001469 printed / stamped on the cover.
This is a very early FIRST PRESSING MONO pressing released in 1968 on the Apple label (PMC 7067 and 7068) (mono). It has a total of 30 tracks (see photos for track listing).
The vinyls are in a clean FAIR condition. I always examine and grade records under a bright table lamp and there are many surface marks evident. It is obvious the records been played many times, as was the case in the late 60's when they were bought and were meant to be enjoyed.
However on side one, there is something which I can only describe as a cigarette burn on the penultimate track (see photo), which deems that area and overleaf on side two, UNPLAYABLE. That is a real shame, but it is typical of how records were treated by some people (not by me though) at that time. Nevertheless the remaining tracks on sides one and two, along with those on sides three and four, are all still playable without any real problem. I have played most of the tracks and have to report that there is the occasional jump and some clicks and odd crackle at times, but overall one has to accept that the vinyl condition is what it is and just accept the labels and other items are in a better condition.
There are spindle marks noticeable on both labels when tilted towards the light, otherwise the labels are clean and free from any writing or major defects (see photos).
The records have sides 1 and 2 on one disc and sides 3 and 4 on the other. The matrix numbers are: -
Side 1 - XEX 709 - 1
Side 2 - XEX 710 - 1
Side 3 - XEX 711 - 1
Side 4 - XEX 712 - 1
All of the above detail indicates this item to be a FIRST PRESSING issue.
The records are perfectly flat and have no warps of any description.
The vinyls are housed in their original black inner sleeves in a GOOD condition.
The printed Garrod and Lofthouse laminated gatefold cover is in an overall VERY GOOD condition. The edges and spine are very strong and there are odd bits of minor shelf wear in places and at the corners. There is some minor creasing on the front laminate and an area at the top on the back which has sustained a water mark. There is minimal wear along the top opening edge. There is a hint of ring wear, but mainly evident when tilted towards the light. The inside of the gatefold has the visible flaps and is clean.
Also included are the prints of the individual four Beatles members in EXCELLENT condition, along with the lyric sheet poster in a VERY GOOD condition (see photo).
Overall a highly sought-after low number cover, complete with all the inserts and one which should be of interest to avid Beatles collectors.The pictures shown are of the actual item.
