The Beatles Yesterday and Today 2nd State Butcher

Best One I've Had Ever!!!

Obviously, when it comes to collecting records its all about condition, TRUE grading (See all 12 of my pictures) and rarity. The better the condition the higher it should sell for, to true collectors that look for these pieces not just as extraordinary examples from the history of Rock N Roll, but as a long term investment that you can enjoy. Carefully! Ha-Ha. This is why instead of auctioning this piece I thought it was better off using Buy It Now. Some records are too important to be left to chance. To the Beatle community, an integral part of any collection is the "Butcher" cover. I don't care if you started collecting last year or fifty years ago, odds are this cover has come up in your conversations.

This is an original Capitol Records ST-2553, stereo pressing of the classic Beatles album "Yesterday And Today. This copy is a second state "paste over", with the slick pasted over the original wrap around "Butcher" slick cover. Capitol did not want to trash all those "Vulgar" covers so they pasted slicks over the originals and saved a fortune in production. The Stereo Pressings are much harder to find. There were 10 Mono's for every 1 Stereo copy pressed. The Stereo is the one to have as it is more collectible because of lower supply. The black "V" of Ringo's turtleneck is clearly visible on the front of this snow white jacket. This is the easiest way to identify a second state butcher. Also there is the 3 piece evaluation, but you can read about that on Beatles sights. This is guaranteed to be the real deal.

Take your mouse over the picture just to the right of Paul and the trunk and you will see the Ringo "V". It shows so clear that you can literally see it from across the room. The Front of this cover has no ringwear, None. The Beatles are so vivid in the picture it almost looks 3-D. I have never seen one with this clean and I have had some nice examples. The slick has no signs of ever being picked at as to reveal the butcher underneath. Which is a very important part. The Beatles experts will tell you to leave a clean Second State alone. If you are going to peal one, look for something that has obvious stress to the front cover. Second states are becoming quite collectible because so many have tried to peal them and failed or they shelled out a grand to have it professionally done. Either way it has made these much more obscure. I Grade this one Excellent plus. There is a tiny push mark on the top spine over George's Head. It does not penetrate the cover and has been pictured. There is a tiny bit of wear on the bottom corner that can only be seen from the rear and I have taken pictures of that as well. Anything that is not pictured such as the top & bottom spines are in Perfect condition and just as factory fresh as the front and back. Some pictures had to be sacrificed in order to get down to 12. This cover is 99% perfect. I had looked back through the past sold and active on all the major record sales formats, the biggest problem with these covers is if you are lucky enough to find one intact, they are subject to yellowing. Seeing as this cover is 60% White, it is almost imposible to find one without the ring wear and discoloration. This one does not have those issues. The only examples I could find close to this condition were in the shrink and even they had gone through some slight discoloration because of the elements and 47 years. The Black Capitol w/ colorband label lp is in VG condition, but you don't buy this one for the record as they can be found anywhere. This has been cleaned on a VPI 17F. The original yellow capitol innersleeve is present and pictured. The RIAA and Scranton PA pressing plant number 2 are both present and pictured
