The Black Crowes are an American, blues-oriented hard rock jam band that has sold over 20 million albums. They were hailed by Melody Maker as "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World". In 1990, the readers of Rolling Stone named it the 'Best New American Band'. The band has toured with acts such as Aerosmith, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, AC/DC, The Grateful Dead, and Neil Young. The Crowes - as fans refer to them - are listed at #92 on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock".

Amorica is the third album by The Black Crowes. It was released in late 1994 on American Recordings and re-issued in the US and UK in 1998 with two bonus tracks. The album cover's depiction of pubic hair, from a 1976 United States Bicentennial issue of Hustler magazine, caused controversy. The record company ended up putting out an alternative cover that blacked out the offending image. Amorica eventually reached Gold status in the United States, shipping 500,000 copies

As a massive Black Crowes fan it will come as no surprise that I rate this album 5 out of 5.
This for me is the Black Crowes at there finest. The album oozes class with beautiful songs and melodies creating a richer more spiritual musical experience. Maybe not quite so immidiate as the earlier, straight ahead rock aproach of "Shake your money maker" and "Southern Harmony" but let this one float and sink in and you'll be in for an aural treat way beyond just good rock n roll. This is not only my fave BC album but also rates as one of my all time top 10 , essential for any serious music fan. Enjoy :)

This is one of those albums that I don't know if a band can plan. It seems like it was born out of a multitude of songwriting and jam sessions. Its mood is so loose and organic that it plays like some desperate plea of subconscious expression. Its tone is reminiscent of Neil Young's Tonight's The Night. Both are moody, primal, and have an almost urgent quality to their production.
Amorica, stylistically, is quite eclectic. It has hints of Santana's west coast sound and delta blues and southern rock and country twang. Yet its eclecticism works in its favor; this is a layered album with bursts of energy, originality, and that freewheeling vibe for which the Crowes are known.
The guitar duo of Marc Ford and Rich Robinson delivers wonderfully nuanced beds of acoustic and electric. The rhythm section is taut and always reliable; Ed's piano fills are sweet; and the icing is Chris Robinson's born-to-be-a-friggin'-rock-and-roll-singer voice. And his lyrics are pretty damn good, too!
Highlights include the opener "Gone," "Wiser Time," "Nonfiction," "High-Head Blues," and "Cursed Diamond."
An absolutely amazing album that defies categorization.
