The Black Crowes are an American, blues-oriented hard rock jam band that has sold over 20 million albums. They were hailed by Melody Maker as "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World". In 1990, the readers of Rolling Stone named it the 'Best New American Band'. The band has toured with acts such as Aerosmith, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, AC/DC, The Grateful Dead, and Neil Young. The Crowes - as fans refer to them - are listed at #92 on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock".

Warpaint is a 2008 album by blues-rock band The Black Crowes. Released on March 3, 2008, it was the band's first studio album in almost seven years, and its first with new members Luther Dickinson and Adam MacDougall, as well as the first to be released on the band's own Silver Arrow Records label. Despite its predecessor selling more copies, Warpaint debuted 15 spots higher in the United States.

The picture disc vinyl version of the album includes a bonus 7" disc with "Here Comes Daylight" and "Hole in Your Soul". These tracks are bundled with the iTunes version of the album, as well, though "Hole in Your Soul" was only available if pre-ordered.

According to Crowesbase.com, the band's official archives website, four other songs were recorded, and they were titled, "Movin' On" (different from "Movin' On Down the Line"), "Ready For Rain", "Natural Born Turn It On", and "Share My Blanket". No word on whether these will be included on future releases.

I saw the Black Crowes a while back and had high hopes for a new album. Then i heard that Marc Ford had slipped through their fingers again and the news came that Ed Harsch had also left, my hopes were somewhat fading! But if any band can swagger out the blocks singing `Goodbye daughters of the revolution' and make me fall for them all over again, it can only be the crowes! Let's face it, they're never going to re-invent the wheel, and as a fan i'm not sure that's what i want from them anyway. What always set them apart from thousands of other bands is the tunes, and they still have them. `Locust street' and `Oh Josephine' stood out from the off and `Wounded Bird' and `Evergreen' strut like only the Crowes can. My heart wanted to give this album 5 stars but my head won out this time. It's no `Southern Harmony' or `Amorica' but it's good to have them back! One thing a black crowes album has always been able to do for me is to make my world seem a little brighter, just for a while anyway, and it's no exception to the rule this time either.

For anyone that loves classic rock, the Black Crowes are the closest you can get these days. This disc in particular showcases their talent, their influences, and their incredible soul. Warpaint clearly put the Crowes back on the map following their mid-2000's hiatus and was a good foundation for what has come since. I honestly can't put this down (after a few years now), and there really isn't a bad song on it. Some of these songs are the best rock songs they've written since the early 90's. The Crowes have matured over the years, and I think they are now better than ever. !!
