Description

THE BRITISH MODBEATS “Mod Is” orig Cdn Garage punk VG

1967/Cdn/Red Leaf RED 1002….here’s a scarce original pressing of their only lp. These dudes played at my high school and were pretty cool live. The cover shot of their vintage clothes is a blast. The cover is in solid VG condition, corner dings/wear, minimal light shelf wear to cover, two small tears on front at opening, name top right front, small tape stain at opening on back, solid and sharp with no splits or delete. The vinyl is in VG condition with light marks/scuffs/scratches. The record plays well with some light noise/crackle in spots but nothing repetitious or too distracting, no stick, skips or other issues. The labels are clean with some light spindle marks and light wear around the spindle hole. Check it out for a cheap price! Please check my auctions for other rock and psych records. Good luck and thanks for looking!

With the invasion of the Beatles in 1964 and the subsequent British Invasion later that year, the North American music industry was turned upside down trying to compete and capitalize on the new music explosion.
In 1963, a St. Catharines Ventures-styled band called The Lintels were already aware of the British turmoil before it ever made it to Atlantic shores and so in late-'64/early '65 The British Modbeats were born. They were quick to jump on the craze and were the first to wear paisley, bell bottoms and shaggy hair which worked in driving
Ontario teens out of their minds.
Ironically, the band only performed cover tunes, but the fans didn't care. They couldn't get enough and so, to fill the demand, the British Modbeats released the Doris Troy song "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" in 1966 followed by their debut album 'Mod Is The British Modbeats' in 1967.
The album spawned a hit single in "Somebody Help Me" followed by two others. The group would rise to the occasion with opening slots for The Rascals, The Byrds, The McCoys and play Expo '67 plus a pit stop at The Scene in
New York City.

///GRADING///

MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.

M- or Mint Minus, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.

EXCELLENT: between VG++ and M- , still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.

VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
