PITHECANTHROPUS ERECTUS 

ATLANTIC RECORDS # 1237

Original United States Mono First Pressing of this hard to find early Mingus album, released in 1956.  We purchased it from the original owner, who bought it new.  Great thick cardboard jacket and heavy weight record.  The record is on the black and silver Deep Groove Atlantic label which reads “LONG PLAYING UNBREAKABLE” at the bottom.  The Atlantic Records address on the back of the cover is “157 West 57th Street, New York 19, New York”.

COVER: The cover has no seam splitting and the spine looks great.  The front has some light wear and the back has moderate wear.  There is a prior owners name stamped on the back.  This jacket grades a strong VG+.

VINYL: The record is in very nice shape for its age.  The only things keeping it from grading an exceptionally nice VG+ are five hairline scratches that can be just lightly felt on the grooves.  Three of these measure less than 1/4 inch, one measures less than 1/2 inch, and the longest measures about 1 1/2 inches.
