AS insurance (starting at $1.65) is not recoverable without tracking ($0.75 or $0.65) so, in USA it's an extra  $2.40  for trackable and insured mail.

THE CHEAPEST INTERNATIONAL TRACKING/INSURANCE IS 10.80 EXTRA (what post office charges and they just upped it from 10.50) FOR REGISTERED MAIL  WHICH IS TRACKING AND REQUIRES SIGNATURE and is…safe. We’ve never had a package lost that way. We are happy to discuss and offer our ACTUAL COST  of other shipping options that come WITH insurance
