In August 1971, the Beatle's guitarist George Harrison and India's leading sitar master, Rava Shankar, organized 2 concerts to raise money and awareness to aid in the plight of an estimated 2 million refugees who fled their home in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) into India. The concerts raised $250,000 administered through the U.N. The LP recordings were produced by George Harrison and Phil Spector.

Color: Black vinyl with red label

Cover: 3 covers made of a heavy paper, one for each recording. Each is protected with thin clear plastic that also joins the 3 covers together. All are lined in the same plastic.

Cover Graphics: Each cover has a separate graphic:

-->Cover 1) Is white with the iconic image of a starving toddler eating from a bowl. To the right are the recording stars' names: George Harrison. Ringo, Starr. Bob, Dylan. After each name is the Chinese translation of the name. The back of the cover lists the contents on each of the 3 records.

-->Cover 2) The top is 1/2 yellow with George, Harrison. written in English and Chinese with 3 color photos below. The back of the cover gives a history of the Bangladesh war and atrocities and an introduction to Ravi Shankar.

-->Cover 3) Full yellow with a color photo of probably Ringo Starr in the center. At the top is "It doesn't come easy" and at the bottom is Ringo, Starr. in both English and Chinese. The back is a photo of the check from Madison Square Garden for the total take from the concerts on the top half and a guitar case filled with food stuffs for Bangladesh.

Size: Records are 11 1/2" and cover is 12"

Condition-Used.

Cover: Some bending of the paper. On the front cover, there is a small tear in the plastic. The record has burst through the paper edges on several sides, but the plastic is intact.

Record: There are one or two light scratches on some of the records. Note: There are rough spots around the outside which seems to be part of the original pressing and typical of all the Taiwanese records I'm listing.

Extra Information

San Diego County's Public Guardian conducts auctions of seniors' estates to help cover the cost of their care. This listing is part of a box of records I won at the auction over 10 plus years ago. I never got around to playing them, so I am now in the process of listing them.

My lack of record knowledge: Although I try to research everything I sell, I really do not know much about records, so please ask questions if my photos or descriptions do not make sense.

No Cleaning or Repairs: I have not cleaned or repaired anything, because I do not know what I'm doing, and I may do more damage than good.

Testing: I'm unable to test.

Information about Taiwan recordings: They are becoming rare collectibles, because they were not sold in the U.S. GIs and their families stationed in Taiwan and Okinawa during the 1960s and 70s brought them back to the U.S.
