Beaten to the psychedelic-rock race by the Happening's The Happening, and almost simultaneously released with the 13th Floor Elevators' debut, the studio-only group the Deep arguably made a better case for the burgeoning genre with the almost encyclopedic entries of Psychedelic Moods, consisting of garage twist-and-shouts with deteriorating effects ("Color Dreams"), subterranean singsongs ("Pink Ether"), clandestine ballads ("When Rain Is Black"), intoxicated country-rock ("It's All a Part of Me"), deconstructed rhythm & blues with garbled instrumentation ("Turned On"), snarly rock with reverse and cut-up effects ("Your Choice to Choose"), floating cantandos ("Psychedelic Moon"), fuddled love letters ("Shadows on the Wall"), tinkling rock lullabies ("Crystal Nite"), and even ethereal madrigals ("Wake Up and Find Me").
