THE DOORS Hits Kit 4x7" Promo-Only Box set '81 Box VG+/Vinyl NM RARE
Elektra Records, catalog number (on the box), The Doors, Hits Kit. This set is promo-only, issued in '81 to commemorate a milestone in the sales history of the Doors' catalog, 18 million copies sold. It came with four singles in the box along with a presentation card and short note from the label along with a 7"x7" color panel showing the nine Doors LP covers. This set has ONLY the 45s and the color LP cover insert. The single with the pic sleeve is "People Are Strange" b/w"Not to Touch the Earth;" the other three are from the label's "Spun Gold" reissue series and all are in that series' sleeves: Light My Fire"/"Love Me Two Times;" Touch Me"/"Hello, I Love You" and "Riders on the Storm"/"Love Her Madly." All four sleeves are a touch too big for the inside of the box and have creased a bit, not significant in my opinion. Pic sleeve is EX, vinyl on all four singles is NM, very likely unplayed. The color panel on the box was glued on; there has been some drying and looks like the glue itself has discolored the white of the panel. Have yet to see a copy that this has not happened to. Otherwise there's a very small crease lower right and a quarter-inch tear top left of the panel. One corner of the box is torn, otherwise the box is solid and still sturdy. An awfully rare item and in overall terrific shape. 45s cleaned on the VPI machine. Bid with confidence. Thanks, have fun and good luck.
