Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Brief Info: The Doors fifth album and one of the very best within their supreme Morrison-era catalogue. After the mixed reviews for ‘The Soft Parade’, which did not please all fans (personally, I loved it), this saw the band switch to more bluesy material and includes some stunning tracks. The critics of the day again raved about The Doors, some citing it as their best album, some went further still rating it album of the decade and masterful return to form. It proved to be their best-selling album in the UK as well. Now with a gritty, heavier sound, and again with a strong production, Morrison was back in commanding form. This also includes some truly memorable quieter tracks and certainly one of my favourites ever in ‘Indian Summer’, a song probably less known than many to non-Doors fans, but this slow sensitive track exudes sheer beauty with Jim as tender as he ever got. This very solidly pressed original appears hardly played and offers lovely clean sound that should thrill fans of the ‘Lizard King’. The change in direction worked magnificently and is a wonderful prelude to the stunning ‘LA Woman’ that brought the original Doors career to a breathtaking climax – sadly that proved to be Morrison’s classic swansong.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(–): an unlaminated gatefold format with smooth matt surfaces. Made with quite thin card and very prone to wear. Printed and made in England by MacNeill Press and, of course has the original EKS prefix and 75007 number. This includes the Polydor-style inner sleeve.

Cover Front & Back: The famous photograph taken in secret at the real Morrison Hotel in Los Angeles after being refused permission to do so. It has become an iconic photograph within The Doors album catalogue, here seen in fine condition with little rubbing, any present light. A gentle rim rub trace at the top of the back which is exceptional for a back that especially is prone to often heavy ring wear. The back top left corner has a fine crease, any others are few very fine and faint. The lack of fading and sticker issues are always a plus on this cover which is intolerant. Most of any gentle wear is seen more critically under light and given the surfaces unforgiving nature, this has survived the years well and remains attractive as-seen.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Any creasing little and light, then little to fault at all on this superb graphic.

Top Edges: Straight and flush with some patchy quite light rubbing.

Bottom Edges: Fairly light to moderate less patchy rubbing on these storage edges.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, reasonably sharp with little wear, any thickening light and all guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on the back edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight, minimal compression, a gentle hint of tilt only. Folded very square, so the edges meet up flush and parallel which always makes quite a difference to attractiveness. All text has survived intact, as has the majority of the black surface. Some rubbing at the very bottom and faint traces on the edges. This more often seen in very poor condition with the text badly eroded – avoiding this is a considerable bonus for this cover.

Corners: Quite light to moderate corner rubs with fine shape mostly retained. No evidence of knocks, purely storage wear which few will avoid.

Cover Summary: A challenging cover for wear, this I feel has withstood the test-of-time and handling generally well. Not for perfectionists, but many collectors will enjoy having it.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): just fairly light darkening to gently politely remind of age. That apart, an impressive Polydor-style inner with crisp window circles and clear polylining. Minimal light creasing with all edges unsplit and no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a very fine visual copy that I feel sure has hardly been played. Very clean with excellent shine and very solidly pressed at somewhat above average weight. Even under my bright ‘grading’ lamp there are minimal traces of any surface marks and it plays very impressively. A superb original that seldom surfaces this clean and little used, it should please many if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I?offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This well preserved classic Doors album plays up to and beyond it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – audio quality is impressively high with the precision and detail of the master tape – a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound with no tracking issues*. Any surface sounds minimal and faint, hardly anything noted and few original Morrison Hotel’s will better this. Even the quieter songs gave of their very best and this is a genuine first issue that many will feel will not need upgrading. Few available copies will outperform this one significantly I feel sure. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, all Doors albums are difficult to find clean and playing this well. This will prove difficult to find better as an EKS original and merits strong recommendation.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
