Mega-Rare MONO Version - FAR more rare than its stereo counterpart!
While we at Packrat Auctions are ourselves typically stereo mix-enthusiasts, we are well aware of the fact that when it comes to albums of this era that were issued in both stereo and mono, the average vinyl-lover almost ALWAYS prefers the mono mix, often describing it as "warm", "punchy", "in-your-face", and the like. Furthermore, artists typically spent considerable time (usually weeks) perfecting their albums' mono mixes, while leaving the stereo mix for an in-house engineer to throw together in a day or so. Thus, mono mixes from this era are almost always a greater reflection of the artists' true intentions. The Doors' first album is NO EXCEPTION to these rules!
Original 1967 1st US Press on the tan/brown/gold Elektra label!
West Coast Pressing, pressed at the famous Monarch Records plant in Los Angeles (indicated by the "MR" stamp in the deadwax on both sides) - fitting, seeing how The Doors were an L.A. band! (not to mention that Monarch pressings generally sound great!)

Another interesting characteristic is the upside-down letter "E" embossed on the front over the Elektra logo (see close-up) - we have never seen or heard of such a thing before!
Jacket
Jacket is in good condition. It is the original mono jacket (and not simply a stereo jacket with a "mono" sticker slapped on it at the factory, as was common with later pressings). The edges are somewhat frayed, and it appears as though someone attempted to color in the frayed spots with green marker. Unfortunately they used a bright shade of green and their handiwork is rather obvious. Other than that the jacket isn't too bad. It does have some ringwear, but not too much, as well as some creasing.

Vinyl
Vinyl is, thankfully, gorgeous! Even after 45 years it retains its original gloss! There are a few VERY light marks here and there, but they require great light to be observed. Undoubtedly not only the nicest mono pressing of this album we have ever seen, but the nicest 1st pressing we have ever seen, period! Although it isn't quite Near Mint, to call it VG+ would be demeaning!
