This doesn't seem so immediately excellent as the debut does, but I think it's better (their best, in fact). The addition of the bass is crucial- a whole new layer is added over here. Plus the addition of Krieger's slide guitar doesn't hurt.

Whereas The Doors' had a sort of rocking, electrifying energy, Strange Days is an album that's shadowed by a dark, haunting mood. Morrison sings with a more enigmatic voice, often switching to depressed whispers, which makes this album more beautiful than the previous one.

The album starts with one of its trump cards - the title track, Strange Days. Dark and sinister, the Moog adds so much character to Morrison voice and envelopes the music with an acapolyptic atmosphere. The imagery is just thrilling here. Morrison was by no means a poet (to be honest, good, accessible music can never really have poetry since it has to adhere to the music. Just look at Peter Sinfield's lyrics - they may be brilliant from the literary point of view, but they stick out and don't meld with the music). "Ordeals confused...memories misused" is just brilliant.

You're Lost Little Girl is sinister and yet rocking. Listen to how the organ adds slight textures to the main tune.

Love Me Two Times is like the Break On Through of this album. Short, funky, cool, easy-going. Still, it's probably my least favourite song on this album.

Right after that is Unhappy Girl, which has such an enchanting intro. The organ over here was played backwards and then reversed, hence that enveloping sound. I love this track, that wailing slide guitar is fantastic!

Horse Latitudes is probably the strangest moment here; a minute and a half of screechy spoken word, backed by creppy, half-coherent sounds. By the way, it's about throwing horses into seas. Must be really creepy on LSD.

Moonlight Drive is perhaps one of my favourite bluesy tracks ever. The lyrics are superb, and that off-beat rhythm is just so inviting. Morrison is his usual self when it comes to vocals. Haha. The subject, though, is not so funny - it's about killing someone by drowning them. Part of what makes this album so cool is that it adopts a twisted, disturbed attitude by merrily addressing dark themes.

People Are Strange is Strange Days in a more groovy fashion. You hear that groove, man?

My Eyes Have Seen You is filler, but with the amount of quality already, this does not ruin the album.

I Can't See You Face In My Mind is eerie bottleneck guitar interspersed with rocking moods.

When The Music's Over bring The End (pun intended) to this album.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE REVIEW)

What else can be said of this vintage 60’s masterpiece that hasn’t been said over the past 54 years since it was recorded. Not much, I believe. To our ears, this is the best DOORS studio album the band ever made. This - ORIGINAL MONO - version of the album will leave you begging for more. You will hear all of those "Summer of Love" songs like you’ve heard them for the first time, 51 years ago; you will also hear "When the music's over" in all its resplendent, undiluted 11-minute MONO glory !!! Don’t miss out on an opportunity to own a piece of history - and then some! Track listing: Strange days - You're lost little girl - Love me two times - Unhappy girl - Horse Latitudes - Moonlight Drive - People are strange - My eyes have seen you - I can't see your face in my mind - When the music's over.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE MATTHEW GREENWALD'S INTERVIEW WITH BRUCE BOTNICK, LEGENDARY ENGINEER OF ALL SIX DOORS STUDIO ALBUMS (AND THE CO-PRODUCER OF L.A. WOMAN)

Matthew Greenwald: "It sounds to me as if the first Doors album had the best high-frequency extension, transient snap, and overall transparency, and that with each album— sonically fine as they are—those qualities seemed to diminish. Would you agree or disagree?"

Bruce Botnick: "I'd agree with that to an extent, because the first album was all tube. Strange Days was done on a tube console, but with a solid-state eight-track. From then on it became all solid-state consoles and solid-state tape machines. There was also this direction that Paul [Rotschild] wanted to take it, a more intellectual kind of a sound, not as raw as the first album. The sound started to become more scientific as it went along, a little more clinical, because studios, by and large, are hospitals, they're not places to record music. Technology is the evil person here".

·                          CONDITION:

·                          THE RECORD:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. A superficial 1.1/2" hairline scuff noted on 'When the Music is Over', not expected to be audible)

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album.

(d)         Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 20:1.

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some ring wear.  On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4  (front side) and 5 (back side).

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-       Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-       Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a partially split spine (less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters)

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams

-       The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the back side  (nothing significant)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
