Description

THE DOORS “The Soft Parade” orig Gold Deep Groove label M-

1969/Cdn/Elektra EKS-75005…… here’s a clean original Canadian pressing of this essential rock lp.  The thick gatefold cover is in VG++ condition, the corners have light wear, very light shelf wear, the cover is otherwise clean and solid with no splits, delete or other issues. The vinyl is in strong VG++ to M- condition on side one, Side two has one thin light scuff across the side and 3 or 4 other very light inaudible hairlines/scuffs, both sides have light inaudible storage stains from the inner sleeve, the vinyl plays very clean with virtually no noise and awesome clean fidelity from start to finish. Clean labels show only a couple of faint spindle marks. This copy includes the elusive lyric insert which is like new except for a very light corner crease and a light scuff on the lyric side. A great copy of this rare gem! Please check my auctions for other rock and psych lp’s. Good Luck! Thanks for viewing my auction!

Track listing

Side one

  1. "Tell All the People" (Robby Krieger)
  2. "Touch Me" (Krieger)
  3. "Shaman's Blues" (Jim Morrison)
  4. "Do It" (Morrison, Krieger)
  5. "Easy Ride" (Morrison)

Side two

  1. "Wild Child" (Morrison)
  2. "Runnin' Blue" (Krieger)
  3. "Wishful Sinful" (Krieger)
  4. "The Soft Parade" (Morrison)

The album met with some controversy among fans and critics due to its inclusion of brass and string instrument arrangements, as opposed to the more stripped-down sound of their earlier recordings. Fans also complained that The Soft Parade followed the lyrical formulas of previous albums, and thus was not very innovative. In reviewing the 40th anniversary remix (for the August 2007 issue of Downbeat Magazine) correspondent Dan Ouellette thought otherwise, declaring it to be "the apex" of the band's creativity.

Due to Jim Morrison's increasing alcoholism and interest in poetry, guitarist Robby Krieger has a stronger presence on The Soft Parade than on any other Doors album from the Morrison era, contributing around half the material, instead of merely a song or two as he had on previous efforts. After this album, the Doors returned to simpler styles on Morrison Hotel and L.A. Woman.

For the first time, the songs were credited to individual members (only Morrison or Krieger on the album sleeve itself are credited) as Morrison was unhappy with the line about people being told to get their guns in Krieger's "Tell All the People", although the title track had Morrison's line of "Better bring your gun".

Despite a lukewarm reception, the album became the band's fourth top ten hit album in a row and the single "Touch Me" was hugely successful.

///GRADING///

MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.

M- or Mint Minus, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.

EXCELLENT: between VG++ and M- , still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.

VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
