THE FRATERNITY OF MAN
RICHARD HAYWARD, ELLIOT INGBER, MARTIN KIBBEE, WARREN KLEIN, LARRY WAGNER
This Los Angeles band grew out of Factory of which Kibbee, Hayward and Klein were members.
They are probably best known for Don't Bogart Me, which appeared on the soundtrack to counter-culture epic "Easy Rider".
Produced by Tom Wilson (Mothers, Ill Wind, Velvet Underground, Harumi etc), their albums are musically quite diverse
and raw, but worth investigation. With its superb sleeve, Fraternity Of Man contains a cover of Frank Zappa's
Oh No I Don't Believe It, all the other tracks being group compositions. In The Morning is particularly notable for its lyrics
("High in the morning, high in the afternoon, high in the evening...")
whilst Candy Striped Loin's Tails features good use of sitar, guitars and percussion.
Their second album, Get It On is equally as good. Once again the group composed most of the songs
(including Too High To Eat), except for three covers (Sonny Boy Williamson's Don't Start Me Talkin', Cat's Squirrel
(also recorded by Cream) and Trick Bag penned by P.Weedon) Ingber had previously played with The Mothers Of Invention
and later became Winged Eel Fingerling with Captain Beefheart. Hayward later played in Little Feat (Lowell George
had guested on a couple of The Fraternity of Man's album tracks), and Kim Fowley also guested
on the first album. Warren Klein later worked with Kim Fowley on his I'm Bad release...(Fuzz Acid & Flowers)
