Description

Up for auction is an incredibly rare artifact of late-1960's California sunshine-pop and psych-folk: The Gentle Souls self-titled 1968 debut LP. This is an original (Demonstration Not For Sale) copy, instantly recognizable by the unique black-and-white promotional cover variant displaying the large floral band graphic on the front.

Led by the brilliant Los Angeles singer-songwriter duo of Pamela Polland and Rick Stanley, The Gentle Soul represents the peak of the 1960s Laurel Canyon sound. Masterfully produced by Terry Melcher, this self-titled masterpiece blends intricate baroque pop arrangements with fragile, haunting psych-folk melodies.

Terry Melcher is most famous for producing the Byrds' first two ground-breaking albums, Mr. Tambourine Man (1965) and Turn! Turn! Turn! (1965). He combined electric rock instrumentation with traditional folk melodies to create a completely new subgenre.

The album boasts an all-star lineup of legendary legendary session musicians:

Ry Cooder & Mike Deasy (Guitars)

Van Dyke Parks (Harpsichord)

Larry Knechtel (Organ)

Paul Horn (Flute)

This promotional copy is exceptionally rare. It makes a great to any collector of psychedelic folk, sunshine pop, or 1960s West Coast.

Vinyl Condition: Very Good Plus Plus (VG++)The vinyl retains a beautiful, high-gloss sheen. It shows only minimal, faint signs of handling under bright light. It plays clean, dynamic, and strong. Sounds simply amazing. Vinyl visually looks nearly flawless like it has been played only a few times, including my test run. The clarity of the players and music on this one are simply amazing. *(I almost kept this one for myself ;-))

Cover Condition: Very Good Plus (VG+)The unique promotional jacket is structurally sound and presents wonderfully. Light shelf wear along the edges and corners consistent with age. There are no seam splits. The text is perfectly sharp. Includes the original  inner sleeve intact.

Please see photos for condition and runout markings.
