THE GODS are a special band from this great period in British UK PSYCH sounds, making some quality recording on both 45s and albums. By the time they released this excellent release, they were on their second album and had gathered some renown with fans of the 'UFO sounds' like Sam Gopal Dream, The Deviants, Pink Floyd and Tomorrow. In my opinion, their move to 'progressive' music as 'URIAH HEEP' was not a progression on this material, which was difficult to better!

However, their impression on sales figures at the time was negligible, and perhaps this was why they had to get attention by more rock-orientated music. Most bands of the time that did NOT move into heavy-rock or glam-pop, sank into obscurity taking their craft into the annals of legendary music history. We seek out these imaginative groups, but at the time they were pennyless artists making a spirited attempt to blow minds with little in financial reward! I have to say I enjoy those martyrs to the cause - and here's an artifact from the period that is a fine example of that genre.

'TO SAMUEL A SON' rare original on COLUMBIA RECORDS SCX 6372 in Stereo, has a banded tracked side, and a 'concept' side that is continuous. The laminated cover is in VG+ condition, with some creases in the laminate, and some slight wear, plus tiny thumb-tack holes (probably pinned to a fan's wall, while the incense oozed smoky sweet odours under dayglo and black lights). The vinyl is not the best really, in VG- condition due to a couple of scratches and some clear scuff lines. The music is loud and worthwhile, though there are a couple of places where I would have to change arm-weight or the needle will skip - maybe these can be 'mended' with som careful attention, but I'll leave that to you. Not a guaranteed 'top copy', but fine for hearing this brilliant band's music for a decent price, some of the better sounds of the genre.
