RARE very first UK pressing of the eponymously-titled debut album by The Grease Band on Harvest Records (1971).
It was none other than The Grease Band that turned an otherwise childlike Beatles singalong, "With A Little Help From My Friends" into a swirling brew of unadorned passion, with the flick of a wrist transforming the harmless ditty into a soul-deep, transcendent anthem for the Woodstock Generation: No mean feat, that, and a testament to the sheer musicality of The Grease Band.
"Faded old-world flowers adorn both sides of the cover with a big strip of black grease disturbing the lovely imagery on the back. (...) As intriguing and wonderful as this album is, had Joe Cocker guested on bassist Alan Spenner's "Down Home Mama" or had Marianne Faithfull taken on the traditional "To the Lord," there would have been that something extra, that intangible that makes records so very special. EX++ to MINT- COVER in all-round very fine condition. Please see photos for details.
- Unlaminated UK gatefold sleeve, well looked after with minimal storage wear only.
- Minor scuffing to the corners.
- Bumped corner with small bend (at top right).
MINT- RECORD that looks practically unplayed.
- Perfect vinyl on both sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- A few lightest hairlines from sleeve removal, visible under strong lighting only.
- Original first-pressing Harvest Records labels with "The Gramophone Co. Ltd." reference.
- Name of previous owner written in red ink on Side One (at top left).
- A single, near-invisible spindle line on each Label.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "SHVL 790 A - 3" on Side One and "SHVL 790 B - 3" on Side Two.
- Mothers/Stampers: "1 / A " on Side One and "1 / A" on Side Two.
- This copy of "The Grease Band" is certified to be a very first UK pressing, issued in 1971.
