Description
THE GREAT GOSPEL STARS, TAMLA 222, Motown Original 1961 release, DJ copy, Promo.
Very rare copy, recognised as the rarest release by Motown, and the highest valuation.
This is regarded as the first ever Motown L.P. release, although catalogued as the third release on Motown's Tamla label after HI WERE THE MIRACLES, Tamla 220, and THE SOULFUL MOODS OF MARVIN GAYE, Tamla 221, this was believed to be to have been released in February 1961, followed later in June by the first two TAMLA numbers. This release was probably distributed locally only, in around the Detroit area, and never got full exposure, along with the other rare release THOU SHALL BE MINE, by REV.COLUMBUS MANN. TAMLA 227.
Note the alternative record label colour used by Motown for their Promo/DJ copy releases. Also carries their Telephone number at the time on record label.
Cover is exceptional, full gloss to front laminate, back is spotless with no stains or damage ,totally readable spine, no feathering to opening edge, no seam splits, tiny corner bump, bottom right corner only( see scans) Graded as Near Mint
Record has a few wispy lines only, nice gloss, very clean, record label has no visible spindle trails, Must grade as Near Mint.
