Item Description:
This is an original used UK stereo first pressing of ‘The Great Society’s live album ‘Conspicuous only in its absence’ released on CBS records’ orange label in 1968 (Serial Number: S 63476). This is an extremely rare and collectable item on this format, especially in this condition. *Please also note that this LP is listed in the ‘Rare Record Price Guide 2007’. I am therefore looking to attract sensible bids on this item from serious customers/collectors.* ‘The Great Society’ featured Grace Slick on vocals who later joined ‘Jefferson Airplane’, taking her compositions ‘Somebody to love’ and ‘White rabbit’ with her. Both these tracks are included on this incredibly rare album which was recorded live at the Matrix in San Francisco.
Track Listing:
Side One
1) Sally go ‘round the roses
2) Didn’t think so
3) Grimly forming
4) Somebody to love
Side 2
1) Father bruce
2) Outlaw blues
3) Often as I may
4) Arbitration
5) White rabbit
Condition of Item:
The record cover is in what I would consider VG+ (very good plus) condition, having only a small (1 inch) crease to the front as well as two tiny creases to the bottom left hand corner. On the back of the cover, there is some very slight ring wear to the left hand side as well as a few other general marks. Overall though, the cover is in really great shape given its age.
The vinyl disc itself is in NM (Near Mint) condition. When looked at under a strong light source there appears to be only one small surface mark on side one and two tiny scratches on side two. However, these imperfections do not affect the audio quality of the disc whatsoever. The disc shows no signs of spindle wear and the cut-hole is not misshapen. There are no signs of wear at all to the record label. Overall, the disc has retained its original gloss and shine and looks new which is remarkable given its age. This LP has only been played once whilst in my possession for the purpose of play grading.
The LP comes with the original CBS inlay sleeve advertising other artists of the day. This is in VG+ (very good plus) condition, having only some slight ring wear and some general creasing, most noticeably to one of the corners. It does not have any seam splits.
*I have tried to describe this item as thoroughly and accurately as I can but if you are unhappy with it for any reason please contact me before leaving neutral or negative feedback so that we can discuss the problem.*
Postage & Packing:
UK Customers
Customers within the United Kingdom will have their items sent out by First Class recorded delivery. The price of First Class recorded delivery insures items up to the value of 34.00 GBP against loss or damage. Therefore, customers who win items over the value of 34.00 GBP will be given the option to take out extra insurance on the item. If they choose not to and the item is then either lost or damaged in the postal system, I can not then be held accountable and expected to refund the price of the item to the buyer.
Overseas Customers
As a result of a couple of isolated incidents where I have sent out items via normal airmail and the buyer has claimed that the item has not been received and has expected a full refund (even though the item WAS sent out), I have had to revise my postage policy to overseas customers.
All items purchased by overseas customers will be sent out via Royal Mail ‘International Signed For’ post, which unfortunately means an extra 3.50 GBP on the postage cost. However, with this increased postage cost comes priority handling, on-line tracking and delivery confirmation as well as up to 34.00 GBP compensation for loss or damage. Overseas customers who win items over the value of GBP 34.00 will be given the option of taking out extra insurance on the item. This can be purchased for an added 1.50 GBP and covers items up to the value of 500.00 GBP. If buyers choose not to take out extra insurance and the item is then either lost or damaged in the postal system, I can not then be held accountable and expected to refund the price of the item to the buyer.
Sending out items by this method has proved very successful and has completely eliminated disputes regarding items being lost in the post.
However, I appreciate that some overseas customers may not be happy paying such high postage costs, especially on less expensive items. Therefore, I AM prepared to send out items via normal airmail to overseas customers (thereby reducing the postage cost) but ONLY on the condition that if the item does then get lost or damaged in the postal system that I am not held accountable and expected to refund the price of the item to the buyer. If you wish me to send out your item via normal airmail please contact me immediately after the auction has ended so that I can modify your invoice.
If you are bidding on several of my items and wish to receive a reduction in postage costs, please contact me as soon as the auction ends so that we can come to an agreement about the total postage so as to avoid disputes later.
Full payment must be received within 7 days of the auction’s end. Appropriate feedback will then be left.
If you have any questions regarding this item, please do not hesitate to ask. Please note that I ONLY accept payment via paypal. Thank you for looking and happy bidding!!!
