RARE UK first pressing of The Groundhogs` acclaimed album "Who Will Save The World? The Mighty Groundhogs" on United Artists Records (March 1972).
"The final installment in the Groundhogs' trio of early '70s masterpieces (...) Who Will Save The World? features eight epic tracks, so stripped-to-the-bone and brutal they are barely definable as blues. With the classic line-up of the band recording for the last time (drummer Ken Pustelnik departed after this album's release), the album has some of the heaviest cuts in their oeuvre: "Earth Is Not Room Enough" finds a riffy groove dissolving into mellotron-driven confusion; "Death Of The Sun" foregrounds frantically layered piano and guitar arpeggios; and the album's closer, "The Grey Maze," highlights the devastating guitar work that made Tony McPhee a British legend. Hearing the latter's fret heroics, one would be hard pressed to disagree with the album's premise (bolstered by the artwork of D.C. MINT- COVER. Original top-loader gatefold sleeve in near-perfect condition. Please see photos for details.- Minor crease in left fold-out flap.
- Slight compression to the (very wide, original) spine has caused a small crease that reduces legibility ("Groundhogs Who Will Save..") a bit.
- Otherwise, the elaborate fold-out sleeve is practically perfect.
MINT- RECORD with minor signs of previous play, see below.
- Near-perfect audio reproduction throughout, with only lightest background crackle in between some tracks.
- Original beige United Artists Records labels with a single spindle line on Side Two.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "UAG 29237 A-1U" and "UAG 29237 B-1U".
- Mothers/Stampers: "1 / G A " on Side One and "1 / G G" on Side Two.
- This record is certified to be a RARE UK first pressing of "Who Will Save The World? The Mighty Groundhogs", released in March 1972.
