SCARCE 1956 DECCA ROCK & ROLL 45 BASED ON THE PEPSODENT TOOTHPASTE JINGLE - WITH SCARCE PICTURE SLEEVE, AND WITH A LETTER FROM THE VP OF PEPSODENT TO A DALLAS TEXAS DJ SENDING THIS RECORD TO HIM!
THE JUMPIN' JACKS - "YOU'LL WONDER WHERE THE YELLOW WENT" b/w "A FRANTIC ANTIC" - Decca 9-29973.
Pink label promo.
Includes the scarce original picture sleeve, with drawing of an unhappy girl's face. On the back of the sleeve is the same face, but smiling, and the lyrics to this song, with "Based on the jingle made famous by Pepsodent Tooth Paste" at bottom, and with info on the group, "The Jumpin' Jacks".
Both sides are rock & roll in the jumpin' jive style, with swingin' band. The Pepsodent Tooth Paste jingle on which this song was based went: "You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent. In this song, they take out any reference to Pepsodent, and instead add great rock & roll & hep cat jive lyrics, such as: "Then rock and roll And kick a hot lick till it rocks your soul..."
Accompanying this record is a letter from Thomas Edward Hicks, Vice President of Lever Brothers Company, Pepsodent Division, NYC, Aug. 27, 1956, with printed letterhead. The letter is approx. 8-1/2" x 11", is typed, and personally signed "Ed". The letter is to "Mr. Bruce Hayes, Station KLIF", at Dallas, Texas, with great content, sending him this record, and thanking him for helping to break the Pepsodent jingle on the market. The letter includes:
"Dear Bruce: Look at the latest results of the Pepsodent radio campaign that you helped so much during its introductory months! The Decca people have now come out with a general release record based on the catchy Pepsodent jingle you played so often on your own show....In this new Decca release, there's no product mentioned, of course, but the rhythm is unmistakable and the unusual lyrics will have your rock 'n roll fans buzzing for weeks!
This is something we never dreamed would happen when we launched our campaign a few months back. And I feel that it's a tribute to the influence of your show during the early stages that helped the tune catch on so fast....and so big. You and your fellow disc jockies have certainly done a remarkable selling job for Pepsodent!
To all of us here at Pepsodent this is proof again of the impact value of radio. And it continues to remind us that our faith was not misplaces when we selected radio, and your program, as our primary medium for selling Pepsodent..."
Very scarce.
The picture sleeve, record and letter are all Mint Minus.
