The late guitarist Clarence White and his brothers Eric and Roland started the Kentucky Colonels in the mid-1950s in the Los Angeles area. Playing progressive Bluegrass long before there was a name for it, the prodigiously talented group won numerous contests and appeared on several radio and television programs (including appearing as themselves on The Andy Griffith Show). The band recorded a number of albums in the early 1960s and their acclaim landed them a spot at the prestigious Newport Folk Festival. Much of the focus of the band has been placed on the guitar playing of Clarence White; he was a follower of Doc Watson's style, and he took that dazzlingly fast, percussively syncopated playing to a level that remains the standard today. After the band broke up in 1965, Clarence White went on to join the Byrds and became a guitar superstar before being fatally struck by a car in 1973. The songs are "For Lovin' Me/Ballad Of Farmer Brown", World Pacific 427, 1964, white label promo.  Vinyl is rated VG+ with just a couple of minor scuffs or scratches per side. The label is in excellent shape. I've only seen one other copy of this sold online. Book value is $85.00. Plain white paper sleeve.

Record Grading

The condition of a record is all-important in determining its value. Our records are inspected visually and rated according to Goldmine standards.

M         Mint – new, never played. Vinyl is perfect.

NM      Near Mint – No visible defects. Vinyl looks like new. The record could have been played before and still be rated NM as long as it was played on a high quality turntable and cared for properly.

VG+    Very Good Plus – Might pass for near mint.  May have a few light scratches or scuff marks. Nothing that affects the listening experience.

VG      Very Good – More obvious flaws such as scratches and evident groove wear. There will be some surface noise but nothing that overpowers the music.

G         Good – This doesn’t mean bad. The record will play through without skipping. Will show more wear and may have significant surface noise.

F          Fair – These records are in rough shape and are offered for collectible value only.

Please note that some records have slight surface noise even when new. This is fairly common and one of the charms of 45 RPM records. If you have any special requests or questions, please email us and let us know!
