All the wonderful elements of Bob Ludwig’s trademark mastering style are here: incredible clarity and balanced channel separation, vivid and spacious “ambience” sound, as well as wide dynamic and frequency range of the sound spectrum.  As is almost always the case with Bob Ludwig’s masterings, the Bob Ludwig-mastered pressings of this album are CONSIDERABLY rarer than the regular, non-Ludwig copies of this album.

Quibble if you will: Maybe there is a bit too much singing not enough guitar; maybe there isn't that single definitive track...quibble, but agree that The Kinks 'Give the People What They Want' is a masterpiece. Every track is a miniature world where the listener meets all sorts of characters: abused women, killers, housewives, lonely guys who hang around the park on a Sunday afternoon...It's not a concept album, per se, but it chronicles the early 1980's dichotomy between drugs/violence and boredom/optimism as well as any newspaper or magazine could. The band is lean and mean with electirc guitars cutting, piano hammeriing and drums slamming out of some metallic-lined sound cave. I stumbled across this record as a teenager, and it remains in my Top-10, three decades later.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER : This reference pressing comes without any custom jacket, and will be shipped in its original plain, generic, white cardboard cover (NOT GRADED SEPARATELY BUT IN A RATHER DECENT CONDITION OVERALL)
