"THEN NOW AND INBETWEEN"

VERY RARE 1969 PROMO LP

LABEL: REPRISE PRO 328

RELEASE DATE: SUMMER JULY 1969

CONDITION: VINYL VG+ *** JACKET EX

This auction is for a copy of the Rare 1969 US promotional 15-track stereo compilation LP “Then, Now and Inbetween.”

The record is in decent shape, probably VG+, with some light scratches and scuffs, but nothing too severe. It plays thru fine with a few pops and clicks, which add charm and authenticity to this 50 year old record. It has the original two color 'steamboat' reprise labels.

This is a very rare album and copies in ANY condition rarely come up for sale. This record has been in my personal collection as long as I can remember. I think my older brother sent away for it or it may have come from my days in college radio. It’s all a bit hazy.

This LP was part of a large promotional campaign to re-acquaint the US record buying public with the Kinks, who would soon be returning to the US on tour for the first time since 1965.

Copies were sent to radio stations and reviewers, as well as being offered for sale directly to the public via advertisements in various music magazines.

I remember seeing ads for this record back in the day. It cost $2, when your average new album was $3.98. Rolling Stone also had an ad at the time for the ‘God Save the Kinks’ promo box set. As I recall, it was like the old Columbia House record deals; send a penny and get the record. Few Did.

By 1969, America had lost interest in the Kinks. They hadn’t had a hit record in years, they were banned from touring in the US from 1966 to 1969 due to Union problems. By then, psychedelia and heavy metal (zeppelin, steppenwolf, cream, iron butterfly) were all the rage and the Kinks style of music wasn’t popular anymore. Essentially, The Kinks had all but disappeared from the record buying public by 1969, the year this Promo was released.

This LP was meant to remind Americans just how great the Kinks music was, is, and could be. The album featured shortened versions of many of their hits just as a reminder of how great they were and to whet American fans appetites for the upcoming tour.

The album begins with a unique medley, put together by Reprise just for this album. There wasn’t anything really ‘rare’ or odd on the album but it did, at the time, contain the first true release of 'Berkley Mews.' The song ended up as the UK B-side to ‘Lola’

Side One was mostly made up of their mid-sixties hits and side two was made up of choice selections from the 'Something Else' and 'Village Green' albums, along with ‘Berkely Mews’ and ‘Days’.

The track listing itself is hard to dispute given its purpose as a promo disc. Any album that has two of the best 60's songs ever in 'Days' and 'Waterloo Sunset' back to back has my vote as a great album.

The back cover contains great extensive detailed liner notes by John Mendelsohn.

This is a rare Kinks album that comes from my private collection.

Condition: I’d call this VG+ overall. As mentioned, my personal copy. Light scratches and scuffs from wear and play.

Cover is in excellent condition. Small seam split 2" in middle of bottom seam.

Looks great, plays OK. It’s been properly stored in my personal collection for years. I’m sure you’ll be more than happy with this rare record. Overall, a great copy and one of the better condition ones I've seen lately. Actually one of the ONLY ones I've seen lately.

I’m retired and downsizing and letting go some gems from nearly 50 years of record collecting. Check out the many other fantastic 45s and 33s on my page!

Shipping cost within the lower 48 states is $6.00 (six) via USPS first class. Shipping costs are ridiculously pricey these days. I will be glad to ship international for whatever the exact cost to do so is. We can talk after the auction is over and work out the details. I do NOT gouge on my shipping charges. It costs what it costs.

If you would like insurance, or anything faster than first class, please let me know and I can arrange it for you. I’ll work with you to make sure you’re happy!

All LP's come with generic white paper inner sleeves and simple poly-bags, unless otherwise noted or pictured. I do try to match up proper, appropriate generic company sleeves with my 45’s and LP's and I’ll gladly include them if I have them.

All items are packaged with sturdy cardboard mailers and filler pads. I take pride in my packaging and shipping and pack my records as if I were sending them to myself. I refuse to use cheap flimsy packaging material when sending my records. I treat them as if they were my own and mail them the same way.

All records have been cleaned and played by me. I visually inspect all records under bright light, personally clean them and then play them on a modern high-end turntable to get a true picture of condition. I'm a 0ne-man operation, this is a hobby, not my job. I do this for fun. I do this because I love music, love collecting vinyl and want others to share in that same experience. I take my time listening, researching, grading, listing and packaging. I will NOT sell any record that I personally would not want in my collection.

I’ve been told by other vinyl collecting friends that I under-grade the condition of my records. I see no harm in that. If that VG+ record comes and it’s nicer that you thought, great! We’ve all been burned by that EX- record purchase only to get it and it looks like it was cleaned with sandpaper and played with a rusty nail. My goal is to avoid that ever happening to me or you ever again. My grading is fair and honest and I will ALWAYS refund you for anything you’re not happy with. I have had nearly 3,000 happy and satisfied EBay customers over the years and I have been buying/selling on ebay for over 15 years, so please bid with confidence!

All orders are processed and shipped within 2 business days of receipt. We package and ship our vinyl records with the greatest care, using extra-thick packaging to ensure that your rare and collectible vinyl records arrive in pristine condition.

Payments are preferred by PAYPAL which is fastest & easiest

I will be happy to exchange feedback with anyone I complete a transaction with. If you would like to get feedback, I ask that you let me know we've completed the transaction by leaving feedback for me after you receive your item, at which time I will do the same for you!
