What an incredible and rare pre war JAZZ masterpiece from THE LOUISIANA FIVE! Recorded in 1919, this 78 is in just stunning condition. On the obscure SYMPHONOLA Record label! The record # is: 4134. The song "Blues Trumpet" is on Side A. and on Side B. is: "Chong". The record looks to be in just exceptionally nice condition. I would grade this at E to E+ (play & visually graded). It does have the typical background noise of these early recordings. A stunning high gloss finish is still evident with no surface wear at all! I can't find a surface mark anywhere. The labels are in absolutely wonderful condition, with no writing or wear at all. Just a perfectly cared for record. I have just made a major purchase of ultra rare rock, jazz & blues albums! They were from Radio Station Promotion Manager Lester "Len" Miller and are from his personal collection.

Louisiana Five was founded in 1917 in New Orleans by Anton Lada[citation needed] who played the drums and latter went on to become the band's manager.

The Lousisiana Five which is known to posterity was formed in New York City. Lada recruited the other four members, pianist Joe Cawley, trombonist Charlie Panelli, and banjoist Karl Berger. Clarinetist Alcide "Yellow" Nuñez was in New York with Bert Kelly's band in 1918 before joining the Louisiana Five.

In 1918, the band did tests Columbia Records. Later that year the band published its first recording with Emerson Records.

Over the next two years, the band continued to produce records for various companies including Emerson Records, Columbia Records, and Edison Records. They went on to produce such hits as "Clarinet Squawk" and "Slow and Easy." On one recording session they were joined by multi-instrumentalist Bernard "Doc" Beherendson on cornet.

The band was popular in the New York City area in 1919, and also made tours of Texas and Oklahoma.

After Nunez left the band, the group made one more pair of recordings in 1920 with a violin replacing the clarinet.

GRADING: STANDARD 78 RPM GRADING IS USED.

N- NEW MINUS: Full Original Luster. Appears Unplayed With No Signs Of Use. Highest Grade Used. Possible Slight Sleeve Or Storage Marks.

E+ EXCELLENT PLUS: Full Luster, Very Few Careful Plays. Slightest Indication Of Use Or Handling. Condition Is Just Slightly Below New Minus.

E EXCELLENT: Almost Full Luster. Mild Signs Of Careful Play But No Serious Scratches Or Scuffs. Highly Desirable Condition.

E- EXCELLENT MINUS: Some Luster Remains. Surface Shows Some Light Groove Wear, Light Scuffs And/Or Light Scratches. Still Pretty Clean. Acceptable To Most Collectors.

V+ VERY GOOD PLUS: Groove Wear, Scuffs And Scratches Are More Pronounced. Moderate Gray. Still A Decent Used Record With Moderate Surface Noise.

V VERY GOOD: Grooves Are Mostly Or Fully Gray Showing Deeper Wear. Obvious Surface Noise. Getting Rough Looking And Playing. An “Average Used 78” Is In The V To V+ Range.

V- VERY GOOD MINUS: Further Deterioration. Fully Gray With Deeper Groove Wear Causing Heavier Surface Noise.

G GOOD: Very Rough. Heavy Use. Deeply Gray. Surface Noise About Equals Music Level.

F FAIR: Really Beat. May Skip. Surface Noise Probably Exceeds Music Level.

P POOR: Barely Playable To Unplayable. Mostly Useful For The Label Or As A Filler Until A Better Copy Comes Along. Depending On The Rarity Of The Record, This Can Be An Acceptable Grade To A Serious Collector.
