THE MODERN LOVERS SELF-TITLED ORIGINAL '76 LP with Jonathan Richman - NEAR MINT
Home of the Hits BZ-0050 issued 1976
The Modern Lovers' classic first album--"proto-punk garage rock meets art rock," released on the "Home of the Hits" label and distributed by Playboy Records, Inc. (before Beserkley Records). Six of nine tracks were produced by the legendary John Cale. All songs written by the one and only one-of-a-kind Jonathan Richman. "Gonna drive past the Stop and Shop with the radio on"....'cause "I'm in love with the modern world." These tracks were actually recorded in September 1971 and March 1972, but didn't see the light of release until 1976. Sidemen include Jerry Harrison, later of The Talking Heads, and David Robinson, who moved on to The Cars.
Condition: Near mint. Vinyl is virtually mint--there are a couple of light marks barely visible to the naked eye -- you can only see them if you hold the record at just the right angle --they're not scratches, it's hard to even describe them as light scuffs. They should in no way affect play. Labels look great. Jacket is still in original shrinkwrap and nearly perfect -- there's a bit of wear just at the open edge, and a spot at each of the other corners. Otherwise the front cover appears perfect. Back of jacket has just a hint of ring wear.
