THIS... is an INCREDIBLE ITEM! Released in 1979, conceived, written and illustrated by Patrick Woodroffe, with music written and performed by Dave Greenslade, this spectacularly illustrated book comes with two vinyl albums. The Pentateuch is taken from the hebrew bible which is The Five Books of Moses, but here means The First Five Books of the Creation of Cosmonogy.

The story and artwork within 'Pentateuch' concerns the discovery of an abandoned spacecraft in orbit around Jupiter, and the project to decipher the ideograms in the pentateuch 'document' discovered within. Most of the book is a retelling of the document, in much the same way as a modern translator might retell the contents of a Babylonian tablet or Egyptian papyrus scroll.

Particularly remarkable is the combinatorial ideographic script created by Woodroffe and used throughout the artwork. I have included many, MANY pictures from within throughout this listing, shown in no particular order. As beautiful as they appear here, you really must see them in real life to appreciate not only their detail but extreme use of color!

Greenslade contributes the 74 minutes of music as his second solo project, enlisting Phil Collins amongst others to help.

Measuring roughly 12 1/2"x 12 1/2", the book will sit on the same sized shelf as either your record collection, or any bookshelf that contains large books of art. Becasue the book is of such ample size, the artwork literally jumps off the page! Here are a few more...

All in all, it is a truly spectacular presentation, with the text of the lyrics also amongst the artwork. The picture below shows a CD pictured but that is NOT included as this is the 1979 edition. The CD version was not introduced until the 1994 edition, and that one was not full sized as this is! Below shows BOTH the vinyl AND CD versions. A physical description follows...

*This is a gently handled and previously read set in SUPERB condition, with pictorial hardcover boards and without dustjacket as issued. Binding is tight and solid, all pages intact, none loose, all crisp and bright with only the following flaws to report. The book shows very minor shelfwear from handling over the years. The corners are ever sos slightly bruised, again most likely from shelfwear and age. The albums play great, and the artwork and internal pages of the book are pristine! It is a VERY nice set! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, MEDIA MAIL CAN actually TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! PLEASE remember this when you leave feedback scores as the choice is yours and not my fault if it takes a long time to get there! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don't write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don't have a clue!
