Description
The Rolling Stones 1A/3A
This stunning vinyl has the very first matrix with the 'correct' 4.06 long version of 'Tell Me'. It is a very early mono pressing on the famous grooved 'unboxed red Decca' label and plays with superb clarity and no static or crackle and just the one click which is right at the end of a fade out anyway!
The non-flipback cover is one of the most beautiful examples you are ever likely to see, it is incredibly clean. The original inner has also been preserved extremely well.
This is one of earliest known labels as it has 'Made In England' on the top of the label and 'Recording First Published 1964'. These were only produced in late 1964. The KT tax code is stamped on both run out grooves.

Visual grading
This visually stunning vinyl has only been played a small number of times as there is not too much spindle wear and the definition of the audio confirms it. It has a beautiful glossy sheen and no scratches at all. There are only a small number of very faint hairlines and just one mega tiny faint mark on S1 that has no affect on the audio whatsoever. It's easily missed! This is without doubt one of the most impressive 'unboxed red Decca' labels I have ever seen and this is their first album! It has been so well preserved and that also applies to the stunning cover. You would be hard pressed to find a better looking vinyl and it really is in unbelievable condition for 55 years old! The labels and run out grooves are also in superlative condition.
Play grading
S1 begins with no obvious static on the lead in grooves so you're immediately thinking this is going to play well and it does! 'Route 66' plays with stunning clarity and from start to finish there is not one single click or pop. In actual fact there is no interference of any kind and this has to be the 'cleanest' version that I have ever heard on an unboxed red label pressing. Plus this side has the 1A matrix! A Mint- start to the album!
With complete silence in the dead wax 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' then plays in similar style with no 'background' at all not even on the fade out! If I am being super-critical there is a little distortion on the top end of the vocal but remember this is a mono record being played on a stereo system. More than likely though it is due to the way it was recorded. It is still a superb version.
'Honest I Do' plays with wonderful clarity which is all the more impressive when you consider how quiet it is. There is no static or crackle and no clicks or pops. The playback is stunning for a 55 year old record! The fade out also plays with perfect precision.
The quiet intro on 'I Need You Baby' has no interference and thereafter plays with remarkable clarity. You have to keep reminding yourself this vinyl was produced in the mid 60s! The definition of the audio really stands out here, there is no 'muddiness' to the sound and you can hear each note so clearly. I can't quite believe what I am hearing - no interference and a perfect fade out...again! It is obvious this vinyl has only been lightly played and I can safely say this is Mint- I have never heard better.
'Now I've Got A Witness' also plays to the same Mint- standard and quite honestly the minus is not even required! This track exemplifies the strong bass sound and from beginning to end it plays with such depth. Stunning!
'Little By Little' ends the side with superb audio and only a little inner groove distortion which is to be expected on the final track. It does not intrude on the quality of the listen and again there are no clicks or pops etc. The audio clarity on S1 is truly exceptional and you don't need me to say how rare this is.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I'm A King Bee' on S2 plays with the same depth and quality as per S1 and the only interference is one click right at the end of the fade out. The first on the album!
'Carol' then plays with great power and definition and no obvious distortion at all. This is rare because it is such a 'high octane' track and again this provides further evidence of a vinyl only lightly played. There is no groove wear and as previously stated this is a beautifully clean vinyl. The playback here is so strong and again there is no 'background' to be heard...not even on the fade out :-)
The quiet intro on 'Tell Me (You're Coming Back)' plays so precisely and there is not even a solitary dust tick. The first chorus is equally as good and the following quiet section is astounding! I am not exaggerating when I say it plays 'as new' it is that good. This quality is prevalent to the very end, a minor hint of distortion but no more than you would expect. A stunning version without question that is Mint- in my opinion.
'Can I Get A Witness' and 'You Can Make It If You Try' both play so 'cleanly' and again there are no clicks or pops. There is a little inner groove distortion on the latter but in no way is it intrusive. I would still grade it as Near Mint the playback is still very impressive.
'Walking The Dog' ends the album with great audio but with a little more distortion. I may be doing myself a disservice by even saying this because as any audiophile knows it is common on final tracks and even more so on mono records from the 60s! It still plays very clearly and is infinitely better than most you will hear on such an early pressing. Quite often this track can be almost unlistenable due to the amount of distortion but in no way is that the case here. A fine version to end this fantastic album.
In summary this mega early pressing is a final upgrade archive version in my educated opinion. With only one click the clarity and depth on offer is of a quality so rarely found today. There is no background static and certainly no crackle and that is not surprising when you see how incredibly clean this 'unboxed red Decca' vinyl is. The cover is also in fabulous condition and in all honesty I have never seen a cleaner copy. It has the wow factor!
The Cover
The laminated 'Clarifoil' cover is one of the most stunning example I have ever seen. The edges and spine have no rubbing/marking at all and are in perfect condition and the corners also have next to no wear also. The opening edge has only a very minimal amount of handling wear, hardly worth a mention really! The front cover is so clean and has no laminate splits and only a small number of creases and a little lifting around the spine. The back cover has none of the staining or marking that you so often find, it is superb! Just a couple of very faint creases - this cover has been so well looked after down the decades.
Inner Sleeve
The original poly-lined 'Foreign Patents Pending' sleeve not surprisingly is in superb condition also with no splits or tears and no marking either. There is hardly any creasing either.
The Labels
The grooved red labels have lost none of their original colour and have no marking or writing and not very much spindle wear. Fantastic examples.
