THE ROLLING STONES

- BEGGARS BANQUET -

UK LP 1968 DECCA RECORDS LK 4955

 MONO  RARE 1ST PRESS!!

LOW START PRICE - NO RESERVE!!

LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH ORIGINAL MONO INNER SLEEVE

The album that set the template for The Rolling Stones as we know them today, Beggars Banquet was an exercise in getting back to basics after the redundant excesses of their previous album, 1967's psychedelic Their Satanic Majesties Request.

With this album, the Stones' demonic reputation was sealed.

THE ORIGINAL UK MONO 1968 LP RELEASE OF 'BEGGARS BANQUET'IS ONE ON THE STONES' RAREST RELEASES AS MONO WAS TRULY ON THE WAY OUT WHEN ISSUED AND ONLY A VERY LIMITED NUMBER WERE PRESSED. ON THE 'UNBOXED' DECCA RECORD LABEL,THIS IS A RARE FIRST PRESSING & SO COMES ON THE HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL. THE FULL MATRIX NUMBERS ARE:

Side 1 matrix No XARL-8476-4A

Side 2 matrix No XARL-8477-3A

THIS LP ALSO COMES IN THE ORIGINAL GATEFOLD LAMINATED COVER & WITH THE ORIGINAL MONO INNER SLEEVE & WITH THE RED AND SILVER CENTRE-LABELS.I HAVE HAD THIS COPY SINCE THE MONTH OF RELEASE AND ALTHOUGH THE VINYL IS MONO I HAVE ONLY JUST NOTICED THAT THE SLEEVE IS FOR THE STEREO VERSION,SO THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A MIX UP IN THE STORE. THE JACKET IS FOR A 1ST PRESSING THOUGH, AS CREDITS TO ALL SONGS ARE ATTRIBUTED TO JAGGER-RICHARD - LATER EDITIONS WOULD BE CORRECTED TO REFLECT THAT ROBERT WILKINS COMPOSED PRODIGAL SON. THE SLEEVE PRINTED BY GARROD & LOFTHOUSE ALSO STATES PATENT PENDING, WHICH WAS REMOVED FROM LATER EDITIONS.

THE VINYL HAS A PLEASING DEEP LUSTRE, HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR WITH VERY FEW SURFACE MARKS OR SCRATCHES AND HAS VERY LITTLE IN THE WAY OF POPS OR CRACKLES - I WOULD RATE IT AS BEING IN VERY GOOD CONDITION.

THE LAMINATED SLEEVE IS IN DECENT CONDITION. THERE IS SOME MINOR DISCOLOURATION AND SLIGHT CREASING AND ALSO SOME STORAGE WEAR BUT OVERALL I WOULD SAY THAT IT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION -.

THE ORIGINAL DECCA LABELS ARE IN NICE ORDER WITH NO WRITING OR ANNOTATIONS.

A SCARCE AND COLLECTABLE ALBUM, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.

RECORD GRADING GUIDE

"MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler."

As well as the above grades, Near Mint is often used as well; this is really for a record that appears new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them. For records which appear to fall between the accepted grades, + and - are also often added to the grading.
