Description
This is an original stereo version of The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet LP, Decca SKL 4955. It was the seventh British and ninth American studio album by the Stones and was released on 6th December 1968 in the United Kingdom and the following day in the United States. The album was a return to their roots for the band following th psychedelic pop of their 1967 album Their Satanic Majesties Request and it reached #5 in US and #3 in UK album charts.
This is a copy of the initial release of the album. It is the stereo version (by 1968 I had moved on to stereo from mono). I have owned this copy of this great album since I bought it shortly after it was released and I am selling only because I am downsizing. As you can see from the photographs, it is generally in in very good condition. The only flaw is that the bottom of the gatefold has become untuck along much of its length. But then again, the album is 45 years old. Get it re-glued and it will be as new.
On 26-Mar-14 at 18:10:20 GMT, seller added the following information:The record has the matrix numbers XZAL-8476-2K and XZAL-8477-2K. It is not warped. It has fingerprints dust and fluff, so it needs cleaning. There are no scuffs, nor are there any visible scratches, but when the record is held up to the light and examined closely there is a mark that might be a hairline scratch on the final track of side 2. My opinion is when properly cleaned the marks, fingerprints, etc. will all vanish. I have not played the record for over 40 years so cannot confirm it plays with no jumps, sticks or skips, but when I did play it I never had a problem with it and I believe that it would play well. The labels have no rip; there are some faint spindle marks (only visible when the record is held edge-on to a light), but other than that they are fine (see photographs 5 and 6).
The sleeve is the original. It is 40 years old, the corners are a bit creased, but there are no tears (see photograph 4).
The cover is slightly rubbed round the corners, and bottom edge, but again, it is 40 years old. I don't remember it being such a deep cream, (see photographs 1 and 2) maybe the colour has deepened with age. Or then again, maybe I am imagining things. As previously stated, the bottom edge of the right-hand side of the gatefold (the side that holds the record) has become unglued. The wording on the spine "BEGGARS BANQUET", "THE ROLLING STONES" and "DECCA STEREO SLK 4955" is legible; however it is hard to read because of a crease along the spine.
