Welcome to my vinyl auctions.

Over the coming months I will be listing a remarkable record collection for auction on ebay. This collection belonged to my friend Brian, one of the most discerning record collectors I have ever known. Brian started buying records in 1966 when he was a teenager. His infatuation for vinyl developed into a career and he eventually ended up working for RCA records and CBS/Sony records as a disc mastering engineer from 1977 to 1989. Brian’s not with us anymore, and I’m making good on my promise to him to sell his records in lovingly-prepared auctions which reflect the love he had for his vast LP collection. The proceeds are going to his family.

Brian’s collection is the kind that rarely comes up for sale. He had great taste in music and collected vinyl seriously for 40 years, taking superb care of his collection. To see all of Brian’s records that I currently have listed, click here.

I grade records conservatively, to ensure your satisfaction as the buyer. All LP’s will be shipped promptly in reinforced record-mailing boxes. Perhaps the finest LP The Rolling Stones ever made. (I personally believe they copied this LP, and very well, throughout the “Taylor period”) A heart stopping collection of songs from start to finish, this is where the Stones emerged in the shadow of The Beatles to become the Greatest Rock Band in the World.

This is a boxed Decca with original plates. (there is NO difference in sound between this and the unboxed Deccas except the collector fetishism)

The condition of the vinyl is breathtaking and without a mark on it. Spindle marks are counted at less than 3 per side and it has the shine of an LP that someone purchased who didn’t quite “get” and listened to a couple of times and filed away for years…which is great for you! The cover is in near mint shape with the exception of a one-inch seam split (from the importer’s transportation – remember these were imported to the US without shrinkwrap to keep the records from moving around!)

The sound of this record is how the Stones intended you to hear it…many years I researched whether this had been cut in the UK initially or in the U.S. like Their Satanic Majesties Request had been…a popular story is that Mick had flown into London from the States carrying the test pressing into a club direct from the flight and it was played two times until Paul McCartney breezed in, annoying Mick by overshadowing the proceedings by unveiling the “Hey Jude”/”Revolution” single…but it is evident from those who have heard the original UK pressing next to the US London that the London is from a copy tape and the Decca is the real thing. This LP screams “master tapes sound” more than any other version out there (and there are great issues out there – the current one being great, but missing something elemental in the appreciation of this LP – the analogue sound that fills the spaces in between the amazing Glyn Johns engineered sound with true threat). This is how this LP was meant to sound – here’s a chance to experience the original sound.

All records are cleaned on a VPI 16.5 and are ready to play – records are never playgraded until they are cleaned properly – that way an accurate grading can occur. All records are placed in new Nitty Gritty sleeves and if there is an original
