Description
Exile On Main Street is considered by many to be to peak of the Rolling Stones success. Mick Taylor's guitar work over the last few studio albums had raised the level of their musicianship significantly, but his time with the band was coming to an end. The Stones "exile" to Southern France was the result of tax problems. and some remaining legal problems. The album was recorded in a chateau using a mobile recording unit, and Keith's apparent inability to arrive at sessions before midnight left the remainder of the band and the sidemen time to work out songs and try new styles. The result is an amazing record with great variety. You'll find straight ahead rock'n'roll, blues, pop, country, gospel, and more. There is a definite decadence to the collection, as the Stones dealt with their problems, success and their lives at a full speed ahead pace.
