Description

ARTIST: THE ROLLING STONES

TITLE: ROLLING STONES No 2

LABEL: DECCA LK 4661

A Word of Explanation: This LP is amongst the top 5 UK Rolling Stones rarities and exists in such small numbers that its existence has only recently been recognised by the UK Rare Record Price Guide. Let me explain. When it was originally released the rear cover text of Rolling Stones No 2 advised fans to rob a 'blind man' for the money to buy the LP. This text was eventually removed after complaints. Many people believe that copies with the 'blind man' text are rarer than the censored version. This is incorrect. The correction was not made for many months by which time 100's of thousands of copies with the 'blind man' text had been sold. However the version I am auctioning is extremely rare with only at most a few hundred or possibly up to 2000 copies being issued with of course only a fraction of that number still in circulation today.

What makes it so rare is the fact that it has a saparate sheet or 'slick' with the offending text removed pasted onto the original back 'blind man' cover. This happened when the decision was made to change the wording. Decca did not want to throw away covers with the offending text so a few hundred 'slicks' were printed up and pasted on the remaining old stock. Therefore copies with this cover are now extremely rare especially in excellent condition like this one. To my knowledge only a handful have ever been offered for sale on Ebay.

Detailed description:

The all important cover is in excellent condition (see pictures). The pasted on rear sheet is very clean with just age fading and none of the nasty fingermarks and ring wear which most copies of this LP seem to have. The laminated front has some thumbnail marks but no significant corner creases. The spine is straight and 100% readable. There's a little rounding to 3 corners but overall no major defects at all and therefore I have graded this cover EX.

The LP is has matrix endings 2A/1A. The deep groove labels are clean with light spindle wear. The vinyl has quite a few light whispey marks seen under bright light but retains most of its original gloss. Visually VG and it plays without any clicks or skips but with some light background noise in places, graded VG+.

BUYER INFORMATION

I am a collector and I only sell records from my personal collection. I aim to be totally objective about the records I sell. However please note that unless the play quality is specifically mentioned records are graded visually. I aim to describe the visual appearance of all items accurately using the standards below which are based on the UK Record Collector Price Guide. The highest grade I use now is NEAR MINT ('UNPLAYED' if still sealed in shrink wrap or occasionally full MINT but only if the provenance of the item suggests this to be correct). Records graded EX+ or EX++ would probably be called 'near mint' or 'mint' by most sellers. Please READ THE ITEM DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY and study photographs to avoid disappointment later. I will refund only on items which do not conform to the description and standards set out here.

GRADING SYSTEM

NEAR MINT: The record appears to be in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and other inserts are perfect. For MINT grading see above

EXCELLENT: The item has been played and may have some light surface marks but there is very little, if any, lessening in sound quality. Cover and contents have slight wear.

VERY GOOD: The record has been played quite alot  but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Cover and contents show some wear.

GOOD:The record has been played many times and the sound quality has deteriorated noticeably. The cover and contents are often damaged.I use EX++,EX+,VG++,VG+ as subsidiary gradings. Unless the record is extremely rare I do not sell items which are less than VG in condition.

Check out my feedback and you will feel secure in bidding but please note I cannot guarantee to describe every detail of the record and cover BUT the grading will reflect the general, actual condition. ONLY if the grading does not reflect the overall condition of the item will I refund. But be assured that if there is any major defect not mentioned by me I offer a no quibble guarantee. I do not refund return postage costs.

I accept PayPal, cheques drawn on UK banks and Postal Orders. I do not make any additional charge for using Paypal. PAYMENT WITHIN 3 WORKING DAYS PLEASE - ANY PROBLEMS CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY
