This early pressing is STUNNING end of!  I have never heard this classic album play with such precision and the clarity and depth of the audio is outstanding.  I do not exaggerate my listings and if I say a record plays 'as new' I mean it.  This plays 'as new'.  The vinyl is visually stunning and has clearly hardly ever been played.  Audio does not get any better than this!  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static - the audio is crystal clear throughout and is a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic!

The famous cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and small zip (with two indented lines) still works perfectly.  The insert is in great condition and the original inner sleeve has only light wear.

This is not a first pressing because it has the 'Promotone' info on the labels but it is nonetheless a very early pressing.  SF was released in April '71 and the Promotone company was founded in Sept '71.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still retains an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no scratches.  There is just one very small faint 'area' on the fourth track on S2 but this has no affect on the stunning audio.  The vinyl is unbelievably clean and I could not locate any hairlines either.  The run out grooves are very clean as are the yellow labels which have hardly any spindle wear.

Play grading

The run in on S1 is so quiet and the intro on 'Brown Sugar' then plays with sublime clarity and depth.  Jagger's opening vocal is just as clean and it continues in the same precise way.  The audio is so powerful, rich and deep and every section plays with stunning quality.  Turn up the mid / sax instrumental it sounds fantastic!  The remainder is of the same high end standard and I am fully confident in grading this as Mint such is the quality.

'Sway' plays to the same standard with no intrusion.  I often find this track has a 'muddy' type sound quality but that is definitely not the case here, another sign this Stones album has been so well cared for just like the rest of the collection.  Every vocal and instrumental section plays with genuine quality and there are no negatives.  Taylor's mid solo is superb and the end one even better!  From start to finish it could not play any better and Mint is deserved.

The acoustic intro on 'Wild Horses' plays beautifully with only a couple of barely audible dust ticks and I do mean barely audible!  The first verse and chorus also play to perfection and this level of clarity is kept up as it progresses.  I even heard things during the second verse that I have never noticed before!  It really does play so clearly and the mid instrumental is a fine example of that.  I mean there's good clarity and then there's clarity like this!  It is a STUNNING version and to the final note it plays 'as new' without any background.  A classic track and a Mint one at that.  Wow!

The intro on 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking' is flawless and the first verse and chorus are just as strong.  In fact the entire 7 minutes plus plays with outstanding sonic quality and again there is no background to report on.  It plays with tremendous depth and and that 'sound' is enhanced so much by Wyman's deep bass.  The audio is so clean and the long instrumental is superb and I cannot adequately put into words just how 'as new' the audio is!  From start to finish there is no interference - this is the 'cleanest' version I have ever heard.  Mint is 100% deserved.

'You Gotta Move' ends the side... perfect audio.  The acoustic intro has no background and the vocal section is equally as strong - no background static or distortion and it continues in the same way.  It provides a Mint end to perhaps the most 'complete' S1 I have ever listened to!

'Bitch' plays with great power and depth from start to finish.  Every verse and chorus play with 10/10 clarity and the end instrumental has no intrusion either.  A Mint start to S2.

The very quiet intro on 'I Got The Blues' plays so clearly with just one mega quiet static and the first vocal is equal to that.  I have listened to it twice now and the clarity of sound is just phenomenal!  I have never heard this track play with such precision, it truly is a breath-taking version.  It is Mint on every level.

I am running out of superlatives for this album now!  The classic 'Sister Morphine' is just incredible!  I know I can get a little over-enthusiastic with my grading sometimes but when you hear audio like this I can be forgiven!  The clarity and depth of the audio is just STUNNING I have never heard it plays with such precision.  Crystal clear audio from start to finish with no background of any kind.  This is the definitive Mint version.

'Dead Flowers' reaches the same heights and plays with infinite precision with zero background.  It is Mint in every way.

The acoustic intro on 'Moonlight Mile' plays with perfect clarity and the first verse and chorus have no interference either.  It continues in the same way and the louder instrumental section then plays with great power and definition.  If there is any inner groove distortion it is so minimal and totally non-intrusive.  The following quiet passage plays beautifully and the final section ends the album zero interference.  I will say Mint- and wow what an album!

In summary this early press is just astounding!  There is literally no interference on either side and the clarity is out of this world.  I have never heard a Sticky Fingers play with such precision and it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE pressing and I would be surprised if the winning bidder disagreed with that.  It may not be a genuine first press but if you want an early pressing playing 'as new' then this is the one to own.

The Cover, Insert & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and the small unbranded zip still works perfectly.  The 'buckle' has hardly any creasing and the small flap above just has a little more obvious creasing on the 'edge' as is common.  The edges around the cover are very clean and the main 'spine' remains 100% legible.  The corners are in superb shape with hardly any wear.  The front cover has only a handful of faint spots but you can only see these at a certain angle under a bright light and there is also one small circular scuff also.  The back cover is in great shape with only a few minor indents in one small area where it was once rested against another Sticky Fingers zip in the record shop.  A little glue residue near the bottom also but this is minor and nothing to worry about.  Overall this is a fine example of this iconic cover.

The two-sided insert is in great condition with no creasing and only a small number of small faint spots on the credits side.

The plain white die-cut inner has just a little age related fading around the edges, a small number of faint spots and minimal creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with Rega Carbon Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
