Description

The Rolling Stones : Their Satanic Majesties Request (1st Press 1P/P1)
On offer here is a genuine first 1P/P1 mono pressing on the blue unboxed Decca grooved label that in the main plays with very impressive audio.
The mono LP of 'Satanic' exists in two different versions.  The original master tape was mixed twice, the first was used for mono records and the second for both mono and stereo.
The first mix was used on mono records with the 1P/P1 stampers and this is known as the 'true' mono pressing.  You can actually hear the difference between a 'true' and 'non-true' pressing.  'The Lantern' bell tolls three times at the beginning (true) as opposed to twice on the (non-true) second mono mix.
TXL 103 // ARL - 8126 - 1P / ARL - 8127 - P1 // H 2 6 / UH 1

The audio on S1 is Ex+ (many sections Near Mint / track 1 intro VG- / 10 seconds on track 5 G+)
The audio on S2 is Ex+ ( some sections Near Mint / track 3 is Ex)
The cover is Ex-
The labels are Ex+
The inner sleeve is Ex+
Visual grading
There are a number of fine hairlines and a couple of more obvious ones but as is common with vinyl it plays a lot better than it looks.  There is also one radial line on S1 and a couple of small marks that have an affect on the audio as detailed below.  So visually it isn't perfect but I have seen a lot worse believe me and overall the audio plays to an excellent standard.
Play grading
'Sing This All Together' has some crackle, a couple of dull pops and a little skip on the intro.  From that point on it plays with wonderful quality and no other obvious interference.  'Citadel' plays with excellent sound quality and only light crackle in the quieter sections.  'In Another Land' is a stunning version and rarely have I heard better.  There is barely any interference and it plays with great clarity, just a little crackle on the bizarre end section!  '2000 Man' is another highlight and plays with superb power and depth.  Tremendous production on evidence here, the separation and clarity is 'high end' on this pressing.  'Sing This All Together (See What Happens)' has light static on the intro and then plays with very clear audio although sadly there are a series of about four short skips about 1.5 minutes in.  Thereafter it plays with superlative audio and no other faults.  The final vocal end section is stunning and indeed much of this track plays with Near Mint quality, just a shame about that one very short section.
'She's A Rainbow' has a minor amount of static on the intro and then plays with spectacular sound quality.  The clarity and depth is of such high quality it's incredible to think this is a very first pressing.  Even the quieter piano sections play with a bare minimum of static and there are no clicks or pops.  A stunning start to S2.  'The Lantern' again has only a touch of static in the quieter sections and plays with sublime audio overall.  Whilst 'Gomper' plays with very clear sound there is a little more audible static on the first half although not intrusive in my opinion.  You expect some 'background' on a very collectable record of this age and it still plays with excellent quality.  The second half in particular is superb.  '2000 Light Years From Now' has some light static on the intro and once the vocal begins the audio is of a 'high end' standard.  This is obvious during the very quiet mid section which has next to no 'background'.  Wow!  The remainder of the track plays impressively with only one pop literally at the end.  'On With The Show' ends the album in fine style.  A hint of distortion perhaps but wonderful sound nonetheless and no clicks or pops again.
In summary the vast majority of this classic album plays with excellent audio and especially S2.  Yes there are a couple of issues with S1 but overall the audio here will not disappoint.

The Cover
The lenticular 3-D gatefold is generally in excellent condition with some minor shelf wear only.  The top and bottom edge of the front cover are very clean with only a little rubbing on the latter.  However, the two edges of the back cover do have some rubbing that is more noticeable.  The spine is in superb condition with no wear at all and remains 100% perfectly legible.  The laminate is in great shape with only a little lifting around the spine area and one small 'nick' on the bottom edge, no obvious creasing at all and there is one small mark that can be seen on the 3D image.  The corners have some wear although there is no real deterioration.  The opening edge has no handling wear but a small tear is visible on the inside edge.  Aside from that the inside of gatefold is in immaculate condition.  The back cover is very clean with only a little creasing on the bottom left corner.  Not perfect (how many are?!) but for a genuine first press 3D cover it is more than acceptable and definitely grades as Ex if not better in certain sections.
Inner sleeve
The plain white die-cut inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no splits or tears, just some light creasing.
The labels
This is known as the second variation of the blue grooved label.  They are both in excellent condition early pressing has the third known label variation and they are both very clean with only some spindle wear and a couple of mega small marks on the S2 label.  The KT tax code is stamped on both run out grooves.
