Description

THE ROLLING STONES, missing text sleeve, UK 1964 Decca mono debut album.

LK 4605, original UK Red unboxed mono, ‘ridged’ Decca record labels.

An early UK mono copy of, ‘The Rolling Stones’ debut LP from 1964.

A UK album in original condition, there are a number of interesting errors / inconsistencies on the record labels / sleeve, featuring:

1.

a. the original sleeve text of, ‘MONO LK 4605’, is missing off the rear of the sleeve, Decca were quick to spot this error, so only a very small number of these ‘mis pressed, missing text’ sleeves were ever printed, so they are very hard to find,

b. on the record label and on the sleeve, side one, track four, it features the incorrect track title of, ‘I need you Baby’, this track title should have appeared as, ‘Mona’,

c. on the record label the ‘writers credit’ for the track, ‘Honest I Do’ is printed incorrectly, as it appears as, ‘Hurran and Calvert’. On the sleeve the ‘writers credit’ is correct and appears as, ‘Reed’,

d. on the rear of the sleeve, within the sleeves notes, the track, ‘Can I get a witness’ has been mis printed as, ‘Can’t I get a witness’,

e. on the rear of the sleeve, within the sleeves notes, the track, ‘You can make it if you try, appears as just, ‘You can make it’,

2. the audio on side two, track three, ‘Tell Me’, 4.06 mins, on the start of the ‘fade out’ it just ends abruptly !,

3. earliest sleeve, featuring twin ‘flip backs’, ie fold over edges, top and bottom,

4. original UK 1964 Red Decca ‘ridged’ mono record labels,

5. unusual earliest record ‘matrix’ of, ‘1A’ on side one,

6. earliest ‘mother’ of, ‘1’ on side two,

7. comes with its original period ‘Decca’ inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. The spine is in very good condition and all of the text is readable on the spine. The rear of the sleeve features the original, 1960s period ‘twin flip’ back, ie fold over edges design, top and bottom. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in very good condition and is the original UK period, ‘Decca’ inner sleeve. The two opening edges have remained very clean, a very good, clean original inner sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. There is a split to one of the side edges and a 20mm tear around the ‘die cut hole’ on the rear.

THE RECORD: side one is in very good++ condition, side two is in very good+ condition. The record has remained dark and glossy.

The records matrix is: XARL 6271 1A and XARL 6272 3A,

The mother / stampers are: side one, ‘23 UB’, I think it is, the letters ‘KT’ are also engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove. Side two, 1 UH’, I think it is, the letters ‘KT’ are also engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove.

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent+. Side two plays with some ‘ticks’ at the end of track two and onto the first half of track three, so I will grade the audio here as ‘very good’, the rest of side two plays excellent+. The record plays with a full, loud period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE RECORD LABELS: each of the record labels are in very good ++ condition, each of the record labels have some ‘spindle’ marks. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
